Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Balkcom left
Wednesday for Logansville to visit
the family of Mr. W. T. Brooks. Be

several days with Mrs. Atkinson’s

Mr. Buren R. B. Davis underwent
an appendectomy at the Holland Hos
pital Saturday night. Although he
has been quite ill, friends will be
glad to know that he was reported
Wednesday as improving.

week. Their son, Norman, was
among those receiving his degree.
Mr. Robert Stuckey and Mr. I. D.
Felder, of this city, and Miss Lois
Stuckey, of Tallahassee, are attend
ing the convention of Rotary Inter
national in Havana, Cuba, this week.
They made the trip by plane from
Tallahassee.
Mr. Tom Averitt has returned to
his home in Birmingham, after spend
ing some time with the family of his
uncle, Mr. Will G. Jones. He was
accompanied home by Miss Norma
Ann Jones, who will spend some
time with her aunt, Mrs. Mamie
Averitt.

Business College. Her grandmother,

accompanied her to Montgomery and
returned home Sunday night.
Dr. D. H. Ricks, of Oklahoma
City, Okla., was a guest last week of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Ricks,
at Sowhatchee. On his return trip
he will visit his brothers, Mr. W. S.
Ricks at Selma, Ala., and Mr. H. G.
Ricks at McDowell, Ala. His sister,
Mrs. Frank Turner, accompanied him
for a visit to her brother at Mc-
Dowell.
Mrs. Ruth C. Henning, of Cairo,
is to be married to Mr. Thomas B.
Gordon this (Thursday) morning at
10 o’clock at the home of her sis
ter, Mrs. F. P. Davis, Sr. Rev. E.
M. Overby will perform the cere
mony in the presence of the family
and relatives only. The couple will
leave immediately for a few days’
stay in Florida before going to
Oklahoma City to make their home.

Mrs. J. G. Loyless announces the
marriage of her daughter, Myrvis
Carolyn Lawrence, to E. C. Bridges,
Jr., Sunday, May 26.
Os wide interest throughout this
section is the announcement today of
the marriage of Miss Myrvis Carolyn
Lawrence, of Blakely, to Mr. E. C.
Bridges, Jr., of Donalsonville, which
occurred in the latter city Sunday,
May 26, with Judge G. B. Garwood
performing the ceremony.
Mrs. Bridges is the only daughter
of Mrs. J. G. Loyless, of Blakely,
and the late Mr. E. G. Lawrence.
Her brother is Mr. W. F. Lawrence.
She attended school in Blakely,
where she was graduated with the
class of 1933, and entered school at
Shorter, which she attended for two
years. She received her degree at
the University of Gorgia, being a
member of the June graduating class
of 1939. She was reared in Blakely,
where she has many friends who will
be interested in this announcement.
Mr. Bridges is the son of Dr. and
Mrs. E. C. Bridges, of Donalsonville.
He is one of Seminole county’s en
terprising young farmers.
The couple are making their home
for the present with Mr. Bridges’
parents near Donalsonville.

BLAKELY JUNIOR AND
SENIOR CLASSES OFF TO
PANAMA CITY ON PARTY
The junior and senior classes of
Blakely high school will leave today
for Panama City, Fla., where they
will spend the week end. This is
the party the juniors are giving for
the seniors this year. It has been
the custom for the juniors to hold a
banquet each year to honor the sen
iors, but this year they chose a trip
to the beach instead. The party will
return home Sunday.

The G. A. met with Joyce Hooten
last Monday. We had eleven present.
They were: Joyce Hooten, Marion
and Carolyn Dunning, Fay Goocher,
Maryanne Harper, Jane Fuqua,
Gwendolyn Tolar, Tommie and Sara
King, Marjorie Thompson, and our
leader. Our hostess served lemon
ade and cookies. The G. A. will
have a picnic next time at Tarver’s
pool. Be sure and come.
