Mrs. Carl Spence spent last week
in Birmingham, Ala., with her father,
who underwent a serious operation.

carry the latter’s daughter, Zelda,

and Mrs. W. B. Munroe spent Wed
nesday in Thomasville with Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Gleaton. Mrs. Gleaton
and baby accompanied them home
to stay until Sunday.
The friends of Mrs. Ramsey Ren
froe, of Pelham, will regret to hear
that her little son, Ramsey, Jr., had
the misfortune to fall and break his
ankle. He will be confined to his
home for several weeks.
Little Miss Muriel Alice* Hall,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Hall, had the misfortune to break
her left arm Sunday when she fell
while playing. The friends of “Sis
ter” will be pleased to know that she
is improving and is back at play
again.

Lieut, and Mrs. Edgar Tiner, of
Washington, D. C., announce the
birth of a daughter at a local hospital
Monday, September 22. Mrs. Tiner
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
H. Whitehurst, of this county.
OLDS-CURRY
Centering the interest of their
many friends is the announcement
made today of the marriage of Miss
Mary Agnes Curry, of Abbeville, to
Mr. Leslie Mason Olds, of Blakely.
The young couple were quietly
married Sunday morning, Sept. 21,
in Fort Gaines, Ga., with the Rev.
Rufus Higgin'bothm, pastor of the
Baptist church of Fort Gaines, of
ficiating.
The bride was attired in a lovely
fall model of Cadet blue with match
ing accessories. Her corsage was of
sweetheart roses. She is the attract
ive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. M.
Curry, of Abbeville, Ala. She was
graduated from the Abbeville High
School in the class of 1940.
The groom is the son of Mrs. A.
W. Olds, of Cordele, and the late
Mr. Olds. He was graduated from
the Cordele high school and for some
time has made his home in Blakely,
where he holds a position with the
McKinney Chevrolet Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Olds will reside at
the Whittle apartments.

American Red Cross has the wool
and will be glad if experienced knit
ters who will volunteer to make
sweaters for the British will call or
notify Mrs. R. C. Singletary or Mrs.
C. L. Gessner.
For the benefit of those who can
not knit but would like to render
service, we are expecting a shipment
of materials for sewing and will need
volunteers to make boys’ shirts and
shorts, overalls, bed shirts, layettes,
and women’s and girls’ skirts

WHILE Mr. Jim Odum was out in
Soiwhatchee siwamp, 5 miles from
town, hunting turkeys last Thursday,
he saw a large black bear under a
wild plum tree. Bruin “cut the
wind”, making room for Jim, who
‘wasn’t a bit scared’, although he
killed only one turkey on that trip,
while his record usually runs three
or four. Now there is heavy talk
in the town loafers club of organiz
ing a bear hunt.
