Dr. J. G. Standifer left Sunday for
New Orleans, where he goes to take
a post-graduate course at Tulane
University School of Medicine. Mr.
Bill Standifer accompanied his fa

that Miss Josephine Hunt was one of
those making the Dean’s list for the
first quarter at G. S. C. W., Milledge
ville. Because of her high rating on
placement tests, Miss Hunt was ex
empt from the first course in Eng
lish. She was recently elected pub
licity chairman for the Freshman Y.

this county, have recently heard from
their son, Pvt. Marian W. Houston,
who is somewhere in the Pacific
war area. This is their first com
munication from their son since the
war began December 7 and Private

WAR RELIEF FUND
Through error The News failed to
list the names of several contribu
tors to the Red Cross’s Relief fund
last week. They were Wyatt Hous
ton and C. F. Lindsey, of New Hope;
W. W. Grimsley, of Blakely; Shelly
Goocher, Ben Sims, Mrs. John Hayes,
Mrs. Gussie Hayes, Mrs. Wingate
Jenkins and Mrs. Allison Taylor, of
Union.
There are possibly others whose
names did not appear on the list and
they will be published when Red
Cross officials supply The News with
a correct list.
MEETING FRIDAY NIGHT
FOR THOSE INTERESTED
IN FIRST AID COURSE
Anyone 16 years of age or older
who is interested in attending a
First Aid class, which will be held
in the evening, is asked to meet
Friday evening at 7130 o’clock in the
City Hall. Miss Phelps, who is to
conduct the class, will explain the
work of the class and will determine
what hours will be most suitable for
the group.
HOLLINGTON-TINER
A marriage of much interest to
their friends in this section is that
of Miss Annetta Tiner to Mr. Riley
Hollington, both of this city, which
occurred Thursday evening, January
15, at the home of the Rev. W. T.
Wiley, who officiated'.
Mrs. Hollington 1 is the attractive
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. 0. Tiner
and for the past several years she
has been employed by the Rogers 5c
& 10c Stores. Mr. Hollington is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Urshell Holling
ton, of this county. He is operator
and manager of the “W” Store.
They are now at home to their
friends on South Church street where
they have taken an apartment.

The Blakely Chapter of Future
Farmers of America won third place
in District 1 on the annual cotton
demonstration. For the last two
years the chapter has won first place
in this contest, but due to boll
weevil conditions, the yield was very
poor this year.
Last week our advisor, Mr. E. H.
Cheek, attended the American Insti
tute of Cooperation, held in Atlanta.
This Institute of Cooperation was
composed of Vocational Agriculture
teachers from all over the United
States. Various phases of Coopera
tive Activities, such as Canning
Plant and Freezer Lockers, were
discussed.
Our Chapter is encouraging its
members to become better farmers
and workers and to assist in every
way in furthering our program of
National Defense. All members are
asked to grow more and better
livestock, better crops, and to be
better citizens.

The pastor wishes to say that he
is still ‘shut in’, but feels that he
is doing better and hopes before long
to be about again. How much he

showered upon him during these
pain-filled days.

Idea of a Happy Life” and at seven
thirty, “The Good News”. Let us
make these services real spiritual

F. Cody, better known as “Buffalo
Bill,” removes from the ranks one

known to every American, from the
school boy on up.

Friday announced the appointment
of Mr. John Strickland, of Blakely,
as game warden of Early county,
to succeed Mr. Drew B. Thompson,
resigned.

to visit the family of Mr. J. S.
Sherman and other relatives in this
