KING, Pa.tor We want again to thank the la dies who rang door-bells all over Blakely this week, taking a Religious Census of our town. The results of the canvass will be tabulated and furnished to the News next week. In our church we are hearing many favorable comments regarding the young preacher who is coming to assist in our meeting, announced to begin May 10. Let us have this meeting constantly on our hearts and in our thoughts. For next Sunday: Sunday School at 10:45, with a lesson on the Res urrection, the subject being “He Lives, We Live Also.” At noon the pastor speaks on “The Resurrection Story” and we observe the Lord’s Supper. The evening services are moved up half-an-hour, the Training Union meets at 7:30 and the preach ing Service begins at 8:30. The sub ject of the pastor’s evening message is “In Christ’s Stead,” and every body is inviited to worship with us. On Monday the W. M. S. meets at 4130 at the Church, the Sunbeams meeting at the same time in their room. Tueslay just after school the In termediate G. A. meets with Miss Miriam Hooten. Wednesday evening at 8:30 we have the second lesson in the book we are studying, this chapter is taught by Mrs. J. B. Jones and ev erybody is invited to come to the class. Meets, at the church. FIRE DAMAGES RIVER STREET RESIDENCE The Brunson home on River street occupied by Mr.and Mrs. J. E. Free man and Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Hancock, was the scene of a fire Sunday about noon which damaged the roof of the residence. The loss to the occupants of the residence was held to a mini mum by the fire department, which extinguished the blaze before it had opportunity to spread. PAUL CRAFT REPORTED SAFE A telegram from Staff Sergeant Paul Craft was received Wednesday by his mother, Mrs. J. G. Craft, dat ing that he was safe. The telegram came sans origine. Sergeant Craft’s friends will be pleased to learn that he has been reported safe. CARSWELL-LOBACK A wedding of wide interest oc curred Saturday evening when Miss Cena Loback, of this city, became the bride of Mr. Harold Alexander Carswell, of Norfolk and Blakely. The wedding was solemnized at the home of the Rev. R. E. Zachert, in Bainbridge, who officiated, in the presence of the immediate families of the bride and groom and a few close friends. Mrs. Carswell is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester H. Loback, of Blakely. She is a charm ing blonde and has an ingratiating personality which has won for her numerous friends who will be inter ested in the announcement of her marriage. She is a graduate of the Blakely high school, where she was graduated with high honors. She now attends Bessie Tift College, Forsyth. Her sister is Mrs. Sam G. Garwood, of Blakely. Mr. Carswell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Carswell, of this city. He is now a member of the United States Coast Guard, Norfolk, Va., and holds a rating of radio man sec ond class. He is a graduate of the Blakely high school and later attend ed North Georgia College, Dahlon ega. Following a short wedding trip to points in Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Cars well returned to Blakely, after which Mrs. Carswell returned to Forsyth to resume her studies and Mr. Carswell to his station at Norfolk. Weart, of 10th naval district, San Juan, Puerto Rico, looks at the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded him for his action in saving a navy patrol plane when it ran into a hurricane. Al though ordered to bail out when plane’s ailerons snapped, Weart maneuvered to a safe landing.’' . . _ ...... -- MILLS-WILKERSON Mr. and Mrs. Edd Wilkerson, of Blakely, announce the marriage of their daughter, Blurel, to C. H. Mills, of Pensacola, Fla., which took place here on Wednesday, March 11th, with the Rev. W. F. Burford officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Mills left that evening for Pensacola, where they will make their home. Mr. Mills is employed in the Pensacola post office. ARTHUR SHERMAN IS NAMED TO PHI ETA SIGMA FRATERNITY Blakely friends will be interested to know that the Georgia Tech chap ter of Phi Eta Sigma has announced the election of Arthur G. Sherman of this city. Phi Eta Sigma is an honorary society with chapters in leading universities of the United States. Requirements for member ship are strictly scholastic. On the average only one student out of fif teen can make the society. SPARROW STOPS SANDERSVILLE CLOCK Sandersville, Ga.—Time stood still here at 11:00 p. m. the other night. And all because of a sparrow. The tiny bird built a nest right smack in the way of the hour hand of the big court-house clock, and stopped the mechanism. Indignant custodian, R. A. Willoughby, re moved the nest. The next night the huge time-piece stopped again at 11. Two- screws had fallen out of the hour hands and jammed the works. Everyone is invited to attend a sing at Mt. Finally Dan arrived in New York, and Shirley went to meet him. Here they are seeing the sights of the big city.
