Meeting Of Second
District PTA To Be
Held Here March 12
The District meeting of the Geor
gia Congress Parent-Teachers for the
Second District will be held in Blake
ly on March 12. The meeting will
begin at 10 o’clock at the Methodist
Church. Lunch will be served at
the Blakely Womans Club house at
12:30. Reservations should be made
immediately with Mrs Robinson
Lendon.
Founders Day was observed by
the Ella Jones PTA Tuesday
ing, held at the Blakely-Union
school auditorium. A playlet was pre
sented by the Dramatic Class under
the direction of Miss Annette Alex
ander. Those takng part were Angie
Hudspeth, Marilyn Middleton, Elean
or Joiner, Glenda Tiner, Christine
Spence, Martha Ann Tooke, Ann
Martin, and Jacqueline Widener.
A resume of the Founders of
PTA was lead by Mrs. John Huds
peth. The song, “America the Beau
F.ful,” was sung, followed by the
PTA prayer repeated in unison.
Miss Mildred Tarver’s third grade

ners of the attendance award.
ALICE BATCHELOR TO BE
CANDIDATE FOR STATE
FHA VICE PRESIDENT
Popular Alice Batchelor, daughter
c.l Mr. and Mrs. Crozier Batchelor,
has been selected <by the nominating
committee of District 1 as one of the
four candidates for State Vice-Pres
ident 1 of FHA. According to the ro
tation plan by which FHA officers
are elected, District 1, Southwest
Georgia, will this year elect the
State Vice-President, Chairman of
7 iiblie Relations and Chairman of
Projects. All chapters in the Dis
trict who Wish to do so submit a can
didate for one of these offices. The
nominating committee then selects
from these the.four best qualified
•’an didates.
Alice, along with the other three
candidates for Vice-President, will
make a two-minute speech at the
District Meeting in Meigs on Satur
day, February 28, telling about some
of her outstanding projects. Voting
delegates from each chapter repre
sented at the meeting will vote to
eliminuate two of the candidates on
that day. The remaining two candi
dates will again make their speeches
at the State Convention, where the
final election will be held.

ing plans to attend the meeting Sat
urday to campaign for their favor
ite candidate. Alice has been an
outstanding FHA’er for two years.
She is Historian of the Blakely
chapter, sings in the trio, was ehair
nan of the Tri-Chapter Fun Night
planning committee, and has repre
sented FHA on many programs at
civic organizations and othei eom
m unity affairs. She w,as chosen
Queen at the Halloween Carnival
this year, and was a member of the
cast of the winning district
play. She is a cheerleader,
of Beta Club, and other
tions. Blakely girls feel that she is
well qualified to be a State officer
of FHA, and are hoping that she
may follow in the steps of another
Blakely FHA’er who has attained
fctate and nation-wide recognition—
Marilyn Middleton—who is Nation
al Vice-President this year.

Bluffton Methodist Church
To Observe Expansion Day
Next Sunday, March 1
Mr. Bill Arnold, of Blakely, will
conduct the worship service in the
Bluff ton Methodist Church next
day, March 1, at 11:00 a. m. Oil
that day the Bluffton church will
join aLl the other Methodist churches
of Georgia in the observance of
Methodist Expansion Day.
Methodist Expansion Day is a
state-wide program of the
Church to raise much-needed funds
for nine causes at one time. The
bluffton church aims to contribute
i 133 toward a $325,000 total for the
state.
Next Sunday is also “Roll Call
Sunday” in the churches of the Edi
son Charge, of which Bluffton is a
part. The name of every member
will be called during the worship
service.
DR. FUQUA SELLS JOHN
DEERE BUSINESS
Dr. W. A. Fuqua announces that
he has sold the John Deere farm
equipment company to his son-in
law, J. A. Hill, who is expected to
take over the business right
