BUSINESS MEN
WARNED TO KEEP
OPS RECORDS
Georgia businessmen were cau
tioned this week by Charles B. Clem
ent, regional director of the Office
o' Price Stabilization at Atlanta,
against premature disposal of busi
ness records required under the
price control program.
Clement ^pointed out that as price
control regulations are revoked, af
fected business men need not main
tain records concerning transactions
entered into after the effective date
of the decontrol action. He added,
however, that they must preserve
for specified periods of time whatev
er records there were required to
have before decontrol was ordered.
Required information concerning
"base period” prices generally must
be preserved for two years after the
expiration of the Defense Produc
tion Act, and information on most
sales transactions under price con
trol also must be preserved for two
years after the date of the transac
tion. Preservation of these records,
Clement pointed out, is necessary for
enforcement purposes, and is re
quired by law.
Clement reminded business men
that “neither the decontrol of a
commodity or service, nor the expi
ration of the Defense Production
Act, is a bar to an enforcement ac
tion for a violation which occurred
while OPS regulations were still in
effect.” He added that < vil en~
forcement suits may be filed by the
Department of Justice up to one
year, and criminal actions up to
three years after a violation.
For details of records which must
be preserved, Clement referred bus
messmen to the regulations under
which they have been operating, or
to apply for any additional informa
ton needed to the Atlanta OPS of
fice at 147 Hunter Street, S. W.
F. F. A. NEWS
On March 2, 1953, the Blakely
Union Chapter of the Future Farm
ers of America held its monthly
meeting. We discussed the Albany
Hog Show. The following boys are
going to show hogs there: Robert
Sammons showing the boar, Walter
Tiner, Dwight Jarrett, Louis Jones,
Tom Peters, and Pace Whitehead are
showing gilts.
We also discussed the buying of
F. F. A. signs to place on the roads
leading to Blakely.
The Tri-County Social is to be
held in Colquitt. The last one was
held in Blakely. About forty boys
are planning to attend. The date
set for the social is March 13.
The quartet sang several songs and
Herman McDuffie sang a solo.
After a short talk about flag eti
quette by Mr. Cheek, the meeting was
adjourned.

Taste Differences
Tests given to children of eleven
ehow that boys and girls admire en
tirely different qualities. Boys rated
each other highest for aggressive
ness, boisterousness, skill in group
games, fearlessness, and readiness
to take a chance. The girls put the
ability to be friendly, pretty, tidy,
quietly gracious, and docile at the
top of the list.

KOREAN INCOME
TAX EXEMPTION FOR
VETS RENEWED
The Revenue Act of 1951 contin
ues in force wtih last year’s provis
ions allowing certain exemptions
from federal gross income tax on
the pay of servicemen in the Korean
combat zone, Wiliam K. Barrett, Di
rector of the State Veterans Service,
said today.
Excluded from income tax is all
the active service pay of enlisted
personnel, and compensation up to
$200 a month for commissioned of
ficers. The exemption applies to
compensation received for active
service in the armed forces of the
United States for any month during
any part of which a member thereof
served in a combat zone after June
24, 1950, or was hospitalized as a
result of wounds, disease or injury
incurred while so serving in the
zone.
The exemption applies only while
there are combat activities in such
zone.
Barrett invited interested persons
to go by the nearest branch office of
1he State Department of Veterans
Service for further information and
assistance. The nearest branch of
fice is located at Blakely and the
manager is Tom Morgan.
PlANT BEDS
Horticulturists for the Agricultur
al Extension Service, University of
Georgia, state that there is no sub
stitute for hotbeds to produce early
plants. Several types of plant beds
used in Georgia are field beds, cold
frames, manure, fire and electrically
heated hotbeds. For the quickest
and highest rate of production of
plants, you should use either the fire
or € ] ec tric hotbeds,

EARLY COUNTY NEWS, BLAKELY, GEORGIA
Tones Change with Times
One of the most important selling
factors for all lines of furniture these
days is the finish. In the top-notch
traditional lines, mahogany has an
amfier tone, especially in the crotch
veneers. Satinwood colors have been
seen in a few lines. Cherry has
taken on a less red and more brown
hue in the traditional styles and,
in the very modern, has adapted a
tawny hue.
Tiger Balm
For years the Far East’s most
popular patent medicine has been a'
salve known as Tiger Balm. Actu
ally, no part of the tiger was used
do make it (its official name was
“Oil of Ten Thousand Gold’’), but
the picture of a ferocious tiger
dominated the label on each tiny
red tin. To million^ of Orientals,
Tiger Balm was tlje cure for any
complaint from heartache to house
maid’s knee.

Now, in the new Golden Jubilee Model. Ford Tractor
engineers have carried a time-proved hydraulic system
to a new high in speed of response, lifting power,
dependability and wide usefulness.
This Live-Action hydraulic system gives almost
instant action at all times when the tractor engine is
running. It handles larger implements and heavier loads.
And, with Hy-Trol, it acts even faster when desired.
i Also possible is an almost unlimited variety of remote
cylinder* operations. In addition to all the time-proved
advantages of the Ford Tractor’s built-in hydraulic
system, you get a choice of hydraulic speeds, quick
hook-up, smooth operation of remote cylinders* and the
ability to handle bigger loads.
The more you learn about the new Ford Tractor the
more you will find that it can bring new ease and speed
to your farming—new economy, too. Come in — look
it over! *Sold separately
