P. M. A. NEWS
By R. R. McLENDON, Chairman
PMA Committee.
The 1953 peanut allotments have
been completed and mailed to the
producers with the exception of
worksheets that are being combined
or divided. A corrected notice will
be mailed for these within the next
few days. For the first time in four
years allotments were not reduced
in Early County. If you do not in
tend planting all of your allotment,
contact the county office at your
earliest convenience and release the
acreage to the county committee.
By doing this the history of your
farm will not be affected by under
planting.
Sometime ago you were mailed a
notice of Agricultural Conservation
practices approved for your farm.
Purchase orders are now available
for fertilizers, lime, Pensacola and
common Bahia, and Dallis grass.
However, the amount approved on
the initial notice will be your total,
amount for the year and will be
available until December 15 if you
wish to use it on fall pastures.

ment is asking for a 12 percent re
duction in cotton acreage for 1953
and unless we have this reduction
there is a good chance of cotton be
ing allotted in 1954. The survey
card is onr only record of your farm
history which will be used in estab
lishing an allotment. Therefore, it
is very important that you complete
the card and return it to this office.

are interested in irrigation on their
farms.
The Town arid Countty Church De
velopment Program administered by
Town and Country School of Emory
University and sponsored by Sears
Roebuck Foundation has started
some ground and church improvement
tn the county. To try for the awards I
for the progress made between April
1, 1952, and March 31, 1953, the
church must enroll by March 31.
\I have a few enrollment blanks in j
my office.) This is open for church
es in communities of 5000 or less, j
So any church in Early county can |
enter. The report of progress must
be sent to Dr. Earl D. C. Brewer,
Director, Town and Country School,
Box 7K7, Emory University, Ga., by
May 1. The Town and Country
School of Emory University is a
non-sectarian school for ministers
end other religious workers held for
three weeks in July or August. A
similar school for Negro ministers
is held at the same time at Gammon
Theological Seminary in Atlanta.
Soil Conservation Service techni
cians will be glad to help any church
in our line of work.
The ‘‘Land and The Book” film
strip is available to any group. I
have -this film strip and the lecture
that goes with it in my office. This
\ would he -an interesting program
for any Church or Sunday School
meeting. The Bible contains many
references to the land and to man’s
dependence Upon it and the verses
have been arraiig-ed to tell the
Story of man’s stewardship of the
soil. The verses are illustrated by
appropriate slides which point up the
need for Conserving our soil re
sources. The whole was prepared to
meet the demand for material for
services showing the church prospers
i Y'ith the land.
Gentlemen Prefer Blue
According to statisticians, surveys i
show that men have a preference
for cool colors over warm ones.
Blue is first choice in about 45 per
cent of all instances, with red and !
purple following—about equal in
preference. Green, yellow and ,
orange are next in line.
Mostly Surface
More than 20 per cent of Amer
ica’s bituminous coal supply comes
from surface mines.
