Most people are acquainted with
name droppers—you know what I
mean —'people who in quite casual
manner, or in a manner which they
attempt to make casual, use some big
shot’s name in a conversation. For
instance, one whose ambitions run
aiong the political line, and you’ve
seen these people, m in a o conversation conversation
they will say, “Last week when I was

that they now belong to the televis
ion crowd. At a party, to give you
an example, some fellow mentions a
late quip by Bob Hope. This sets
the stage. ‘‘Oh,” he or she will say,
‘ you should see him on TV, he is
twice as funny.” And so on and on.
Personally, I think television is won
derful, if you are near a station.
But it won’t put the theatres out of
business as some people claim, be
cause who wants to sit at home and
eat a bag of pop corn. Right now,
at this distance from a station, I am
by television like the mountain boy
who when somebody inquired as to
his opinions about radio, said: ‘‘I
don’t hold none with furniture that
talks.”
Another reason the present day
fry should be thankful for the
age in which he is living: He doesn’t
have to tote in stove wood.
Mrs. E. L. Moseley, of Jakin, sends
word to this column that she saw
some excellent evidence that the Re

Sentimental Value
San Franciscans are hoping that
the renewal of service on the Cali
fornia Street cable lines will not
mean a change of color scheme. The
world-famous little cable cars, paint
ed maroon and lettered in gold, are
well beloved by San Franciscans.
Not only local but visiting painters
of note delight in depicting the pic
turesque conveyances on their
sketch pads and canvases. The
bouncy, clangy cars are renowned
on postcard and portrait.
