New Program For
Korean Vets Training
Under G. I. Bill
A new program to make pure that
schools in Georgia training veterans
under the Korean GI Bill are meet
ing all standards of the law has just
been T 'ut in effect.
Vaux Oiwen, Manager of the At
lanta Veterans Administration Re
gional Office, said that VA Educa
tional Benefits Representatives will
now make periodic visits to schools
and establishments in which Korean
GI trainees are enrolled, to see
whether all provisions of the training
law are being complied with.
Among the provisions to be check
ed are safeguards that protect the
interests of the trainee and the Gov
ernment, such as minimum standards
that certain schools and courses
have to meet, limits on the tuition a
veteran has to pay, and the like.
A good .part of the work of the
VA Representatives will be informa
tional in nature, explaining the pro
visions of the law, pointing out any
operational deficiencies that may ex-
1st, and making suggestions as to
how they can be corrected.
Mr. Orwen said the Korean GI Bill
gives the VA a number of responsi
bilities that can be carried out only
through the system of periodic check
ups.
For example, VA is required to
discontinue the GI monthly allow
ance of any veteran who is taking a
course that fails to meet standards
set up by law.
Likewise, the allowance may be
stopped if the veteran’s school or
establishment fails to live up to the
legal standards Which formed the
basis of GI approval by the State
Approving Agency.
Another VA responsibility is to
disapprove schools for further veter
ans’ enrollments if VA finds that
they charge veterans more for tui
tion and fees than they do non-vet
erans enrolled in the same course.
Still other VA responsibilities are
to see that allowances are not paid
to veterans for absences in excess of
allowable limits; that veterans’ con
duct and progress remain satisfac
tory; that the ratio of veteran and
non-veteran students enrolled in
some types of schools conforms with
the minimum requirements of the
law.
The Educational Benefits Repre
sentatives who will make the peri
odic surveys have been selected gen
erally from among former VA
istration Officers, because of their
background and experience.
This compliance survey function
will be part of the Educational Ben
efits Section of all VA regional of
fices. Thts section previously was
known as the Registration and Re
search Section.

VA said it expects the new pro
gram of compliance surveys to ac
commplish two things:
First, to help schools and busi
ness establishments understand all
provisions and requirements of the
law; and second, to assure that
monthly education and training al
lowances are paid to Korean GI
trainees only where all the provisions
of the law are met.

six-cylinder car you want, Ford has it and for less
money than the V-8, which is as it should be.
What about ride? Here’s another Ford similarity
with high-priced cars . . . Ruling Comfort. One of
the misconceptions for many years has been that
weigiit—sheer weight—is what it takes to make a
car ride well. Ford has found that you can make a

so good, both in durability and appearance, that
you probably could not tell the difference. You
might even prefer it, because of its better design
and more pleasing appearance.
Then there’s the question of sheet metal. If you
were to measure and analyze the sheet metal
structure in the most expensive car, you most
likely would find it identical in thickness to the
corresponding panels in Ford.
After all , then, what is the difference
between a Ford and the costliest cars?
In our opinion, the difference is largely a matter
of dimensions, weight (and the power required
to move it) plus the distinction of owning a car
that not so many other people own. The desire
for these things is understandable . . . and probably
justified for people who are willing to pay the
price to satisfy it.
As to comparing Ford with other cars in its
price range, by all means do so if you wish. But,
as we said before, you’ll get a better picture of
Ford value by comparing with cars that are most
like Fords—those that are priced up to twice as
much. In fact, we think you’ll quickly begin com
paring the other cars with Ford—because the 1953
Ford has really established the New Standard of the
American Road.
