A. J. Singletary
To Head Early County
Cancer Fund Campaign
A. J. Singletary, of Blakely, has
ben chosen by The American Cancer
Society, Georgia Division, as
County’s Finance Chairman for
April canrypaign.
Mr. Singletary's appointment was
announced by Mrs. Victor Balkcom,
Early County Chairman.
In announcing- Mr. Singletary’s
appointment, Mrs. Balkcom said:
“Mr. Singletary is one of Blakely’s
most progressive young citizens. He
is active in religious, civic and cul
tural affairs off our town and county.
He is a steward in the Blakely M£th
odist Church and a member of the
Blakely Rotary Club. He is a vital
force velopment in the of present Early County, agriculfjral being de
a
large land owner and operator. He
Is a former President of the Early
County Farm Bureau, and is Chair
man of the Early County Cotton Im
provement Committee. He is cur
rently a Director in the Georgia
State Farm Bureau.”
The campaign to raise Early Coun
ty’s quota off the fund to fight CAN
CER Is to get under way at once and
is expected to be completed
late April. Mr. Singletary said.

mony at the Masonic Hall last Fri
day night, the officers of Blakely
Chapter No. 282, Order of the East
ern Star, were formally installed. ,J.

Camilla. After- the ceremonies, light
refreshments were served in the
dining hall downstairs.
Blakely Chapter is quite active,
with some 140 members.

Missouri Just Returned From
Duty In Korean Waters
Long Beach, Calif., Apr. 20.—The j
USS Missouri returned to the United ;
States today after six months in 1
Korean waters.*- Serving aboard the,
battleship are Herbert E. Sims,
boatswain’s mate third class, USN,
son off Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sims,
of 40'.t Liberty street, and Janies F.
Williams, teleman third class USN,
brother of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Widener, of 3-645;Church street, all of
Blakely, Ga. The “Mighty Mo” is
the first U. S. battleship to complete
a second tour of duty with United
Nations forces in the Korean theater.

•of the Grand Chapter of Georgia,

annual assembly of Grand Council of
Georgia, Royal & Select Masters
held at the same time, Harold L.
Walters, of Marietta, was installed, as
Illustrious Grand Master. The new
man placed in line was W. R. Camp,

Blakely, will tangle' with the Griggs
team from Miller county here Sun
day afternoon at 3 o’clock in the
season's opener. Soil invites the
baseball fans to come out to this
