ROTARIANS HEAR
TALK ™Y,\ M INISTER S ______ V™
Dr Lewis H. Wright, in the city
preaching in a revival meeting at
the Baptist Church the past week,
was the guest speaker at last week s
meeting of the Blakely Rotary Club,
held Friday at noon.
The minister, formerly pastor of
the Baiiii)ridge First Baptist Church,
gave an inspirational talk on “Things
That Will Help Us During These
Confusing Times.” Singing, selling,
serving and sacrifice were four things
listed by the speaker which one can
do—singing, to bring joy to the soul;
selling high ideals first to ourselves,
and then to others; serving, first God,
and then our fellowman; and sacri
fice, an essential to a well-rounded
character. Each of these points was
brought out in an interesting man
ner, and the speaker received a round
of aippLause from the club members.
The Rev. Pierce Edmunds, who
led the singing at the revival meeting,
contributed a religious solo, “Living
for Jesus,” to round out an enjoya
ble program. Both were introduced
by Rotarian Bill Storey, acting for
Rotarian Homer Brinson, program
chairman.
Other guests at Friday’s meeting,
which was presided over by President
Richard Grist, were Pace Whitehead,
Lewis Jones, Robert Sammons, Gor
don Jenkins, and Dwight Jarrett,
Blakely Hi students and members of
the Blakely-Union FFA; Dr. W. A.
Fuqua, a guest of Rotarian Jim Hill;
and R. H. Garrison, of Albany, a
guest of Rotarian Barney Wynne.
Rotarian Herman Cheek thanked
the club for its sponsorship of the
FFA cattle show. He is adviser to
the Blakely-Union FFA.
C. C. Secretary D. H.
McDowell Invites
Visitors To Office
L). II. McDowell, secretary of the
Blakely Chamber of Commerce, is
interested in more .people becoming
acquainted with the work being done
by this body, by coming by the office
for a visit and first-hand informa
tion.
Remember, Mr. JVIcDowell said,
“that this is everybody’s Chamber of
Commerce, and it will function bet
ter and more profitably if the public
will come forward and present its
views and ideas.” The office is open
each day from 10 to 12 o’clock and
from 2 to 4 o’clock.
At the present time the chief work
of the Chamber of Commerce is a
letter writing campaign to acquaint
manufacturers with the advantages
of locating a plant of some type in
Blakely. Scores of letters have
been written to manufacturers, but
nothing concrete has resulted, but
some of the replies have been en
couraging. The Chamber of Com
merce is also doing work to promote
tourist travel through Blakey. In
formation goes out daily to request
ers about Blakely and U. S. Highway
27. MV. McDowell has just com
pleted several stories about Blakely
which will probably be used by
mid-west papers in their travel sec
tions this summer and winter.
