By CHESTER CLARDY i
Cooperators of the Flint River
Soil Conservation District may get
to use their Soil Conservation Plans
in determining the eropland and non
cropland if the 19564 Agricultural
Conservation Program is earrvied out
according to the present ideas from
Washington, The recommended pro
wram is a great change from any
thing that we have ever had. Cover
crops and pastures on cultivated
lands or on most classes of land will|
be a thing of the past. The tenta-|
tive program limits payments to
practices of a permanent nature,’
such us terrace, ditches, establishing |
permanent sod waterways, permanent
cover on severely eroded eropland or 1
on non<ropland, and timber stand ‘
improvement, The practices scem to |
cover the Department of Agricul
ture's objective, “The use of each
acre of agricultural land within its |
capabilities and the treatment of|
each acre in wecord with ita needs |
for protection and improvement,” |
One part of the requirements for |
pavment for the use of limestone is,
soll tests must be made showing!
amount of limestone needed, {
There are now over 600 soil con
servation plans in Early County that
should be used in determining what
practices the individual farmer ean
carry out on his farm. The 1064
Agricultural Conservation Program
will not be fully determined until
Jate summer or fall, We hope that
many other farmers will request this |
free assistance through the Flint,
River Soil Conservation Distriet, so
they will have their soll capablity |
map, land use map and a plan to|
help them help themaselves, |
