Forestry Commission
Has Project To Boost
Forest Fire Prevention
Atlanta, Ga.—The Georgia For
estry Commission is joining with
sportsmen an d conservationists
throughout the state in a new proj
ect designed to boost forest fire pre
wention and reforestation, according
40 announcement by Guyton De-
Loach, Commission Director.
The newest mutual effort on the
part of the commission’s foresters
and the state’s outdoorsmen consists
of the distribution of pine seed in
pocket-sized envelopes for the pur
pose of planting by Runters, fisher
men, and others while in the woods.
The seed packets have been prepared
by the Forestry Commission and will
be distributed when hunting or fish-

The seed packets carry both de
tailed instructions for planting in
bare areas in the state, as well as a
timely fire prevention message.
“Distribution of the seed pack
ets,” explained Deloach, “is one
more means we are using in our full
scale and eontinually intensified
drive to bring the idle acres of the
state into productivity through the
growth of tree crops and to foster
the complete, vigorous participation
of all the states’ citizens in our fire
prevention program, Effective fire
prevention is the prime need in our
fire control work today, and effective
fire prevention demands the efforts

Due to price declines on some
livestock, it is more }:pomt than
ever to emphasize te feed
production programs, according to
agronomists for the Agricultural Ex
tension Service.
A record number of Georgia
farmers and 4-H memberg are ex
pected to qualify for the Georgia
100-Bushel Corn Club this year,
say Agricultural Extension Service
workers.
