By EARL “TIGE” PICKLE
J. W, Bonner, the affable -ecity
court judge, is delighting his friends
with this one.
Judge says in a certain church
they were having a big testimonial
meeting and the preacher asked if
there was anyone in the house who
didn’t have an enemy, or who wasn’t
an enemy to anyone, to please
stand. An old white-haired man sit
ting down about midway, having
arrived too late to get a seat in the
rear, arose.
The preacher recognized the old
brother, and inquired as to his age.
“lI am now in my 94th year,” the
old man replied.
“Do you mean to tell thiz congre
gation, kind sir, that you who are at
age 94 are an enemy to no one, and
that you have no enemies?’ the
preacher asked.
“I do exactly that,” replied the
old man,
“Fine, fine,” complimented the
preacher, “ahd tell this congregation
how this came about.”
“That’s easy,” answered the old
man, “I have just outlived all the
rascals.”
Our city fathers have been con
sidering, I am told, establishing a
one-way drive around our courthouse
square. I do not consider myself
an authority on traffic and how to
handle it, but in my opinion, a one
way drive would tend to congest
traffic. Instead of alleviating the
situation, it would tend to do just
the opposite. As any school boy
knows, with traffic going both ways,
it will move twice as fast as if it
were going only one way. However,
Ido not subscribe to the thory, as
some claim, that a one-way drive will
be injurious to somebody's business.
Ido not think this is true. But a
one-way drive just isn't needed
Blakely has a big square, which s
nearly twice the area of our neigh
bor's, Cuthbert, which proponents of
a one-way drive keep using as an
fllustration, and our streets are at
at least one-third wider than those
of Cuthbert. Suppose, say on a
busy Saturday afternoon with traf
fic allowed to go only one way, when
the light changes at the postoffice,
traffic would possibly be backed up
half way around the square. As |
#ay, these are my opinions, which |
am glad to say are not binding on
anyone, and are subject to change
without notice, and sometimes are,
can stop time!

The difference between a big city

you read the news, and in a small
town you hear it,
The fellow who boasted of pever

farmers now having to fight old and

from every direction so much that
he has become cross-eyed, farming
has devioped into the biggest gamble
of them all. ‘
