HOME DEMONSTRATION
NEWS
ANN SMITH, Home Demonstration
Agent
As we complete another year in
Home Demonstration work in Early
County, we take a glance backward
and note some of the oufstandlng
work that has been done by Home
Improvement Club members and 4-H
Club Girls.
In Home Demonstration Club work
we find Mrs. J. M. IrWin’s name at
the top of the list in the Year 'Round
Gardening Contest, in which there
were sixteen entries. Mrs, Ivey Cham
bers and Mrs. J. W, Evans ranked
second and third, respectively, in this
contest. Mrs. Vincent Willis ranked
at the top in the Home Ground Im.
provement Contest in competition
with twelve other entries in this
project. Mrs. Luther Waller and
Mrs. C. E. Martin placed serond and
third in this competition.
Mrs. Emmett Craft was the 1053
county winner in the Home Demon
stration Dress Revue. Each com
munity club had a dress revue and
entered their top scoring entries in
the county revue. Forty-five dresses
made by club members were model
ed in the community clubs, Sixteen
dresses were entered in the county
revue and competition was keen.
Sharing honors with Mrs. Craft were
Mrs. Ralph Balkcom, whose dress
placed second and Mrs, Stuart Chand
ler, third place. '
Many projects were completed by
4-H Club Girls and Boys. We will
mention only those girls who carried
projects throughout the year, kept a
complete record of their 4-H Club
projects and entered competition in
which 4-H Club Girls from all over
the county were invited to enter.
These girls were judged to be the
County winners and entered District
é-H competition. They did a very
fine job and are in the process of
developing skills and personality
traits which will be of value to them
throughout life. Myrna Bruner,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Bru
ner, was the county winner in the
Sr. Dress Revue; Jewel Dean Lash
ley, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Grady
Lashley, won first place in the Junior
Dress Revue; Henrietta Wiley,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Green
Wiley, was winner of the Girls Sen
ior Public Speaking; Glenda Waller,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Idus Wall
¢r, was muffin making champion
among the eighteen Junior 4-H'ers
who entered the competition; Faye
Tiner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Will Tiner, was Junior Public Speak
ng winner in the County.
It is gratifying to take inventory
of the work and success that belongs
to not only the few names that have
been listed but to these and many
others who have filled a place in a

Fire Protection
Fire prevention officials recom
mend that rural homes be equipped
with several galvanized steel fire
pails. Bucket brigades still offer
practical protection against cone
flagrations, the experts declare.
Home demonstration agents point
out that ordinary bicarbonate of

effective in putting out grease fires.
