IFailure Of Veteran To
' Report Excess Income
g Will Be Costly
‘ Failure to report income above the
|legal limits will be costly to veterans
{or their survivors receiving pension
[from Veterans Administration, J. M.
| Slaton, Jr.,, Manager of the Atlanta
VA Regional Office, said today.
‘ Not only will they be required to
{return all overpayments from the date
their income exceeded the legal limits,
\bul also all regular pension payments
back to the first of the year, Mr, Sla
ton said.
l However, if the pensioner notifies
VA promptly of an income increase
|above the statutory limits, VA will dis
(continue the pension as of the last
|payment and no overpayment of any
type will result, he said.
Mr. Slaton explained pensions are
|NOT payable under law if the income
lof a pensioner without dependents ex
ceeds $1,400 a year or $2,700 with de
pendents.
Since VA has to check the annual
income of pensioners every sJanuary
under the law, any increase above the
legal limits from any source other
Ithan VA will be discovered at that
‘time. Mr. Slaton said.
“So, it's better to report excess in
tcome right away and avoid an over
'payment,” he said.
‘ PRUNING BERRY-PRODUCING
i PLANTS -
l Frequent pruning is the key to suc
cess with berry-producing plants such
!as hollies. Any heavy pruning should
Ibe done during the winter. Cutting
'out the tips of new growth will create
fmore compact growth and also make
iit unnecessary to do too much heavy
{pruning during the winter. This in
formation is from Gerald Smith, horti
