Mrs. Hicks Pinson, of Atlanta, was
the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs,
W. H. Fleming.
Soil Conservationist Chester Clardy
left Monday for Battey Hospital, Rome,
to undergo treatment,
Friends will be interested to know
that Mr. R. L. Jordan is undergoing
treatment in Holland Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Davenport, of
Montgomery, Ala., spent the week end
in Blakely with Mrs. H. T. Williams,
Dr. and Mrs. Jack G. Standifer ate
tended the 4th annual Southwest Geor
gia Medical Seminar in Albany last
Thursday,
Mrs. Hattie Chandler, of Atlanta,
was a recent visitor in the home of
her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. G. H. Owen.
Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Sites had as their
guests for the week end Miss Elaine
Weaver, of Troy State, and their son,
Mr. R. K. Sites, Jr., of Pensacola.

Friends here regret to learn of the
serious illness of Mr. Edwin H. Under
wood, of Miami, Fla., who is in Miami
Hospital. He is a brother to Mr. John
L. Underwood of Blakely.
Friends are glad to know that Post
master J. Emory Houston, who re
cently underwent eye surgery in Co
lumbus Medical Center, returned to
his home here Tuesday morning. |
According to Dr. Jack Standifer,
local observer of the U. S. Weather
Bureau. we have had no freezing tem
peratures since February 5. The unsea
sonably warm weather began in ear
nest on the 9th and has continued with
maximum readings of 80 and 81 on
February 20 and 21. With the sudden
advent of the warm weather, all the
flowering. trees, shrubs, bushes and
bulb plants literally burst into bloom.
All the gardens are full of flowers
now.

Hilton HD Club Sees
Slides On Pruning Shrubs
The Hilton Home Demonstration
Club met February 20, at the Metho
dist Sunday School room at 3 o’clock.
Mrs. Wade Wright, the president,
presided. Mrs. Gordon Hall gave the
devotional. 10 members and 1 visitor
were present.
Mrs. Myra Thomas, the agent, show
ed slides on pruning trees, shrubbery,
ete.
Mrs. C. E. Martin, the hostess, serv
ed refreshments.” After the meeting
all members went to the home of Mrs.
Martin to see the beautiful camellias
in bloom.

The Blakely FFA chapter is spon
soring the Florida Boys Quartet for a
fund-raising project to help finance
our Parent-Son Banquet which will
be held in April.
The Florida Boys, who are one of the
nation’s foremost quartets, will be in
Blakely at the High School Auditorium
March 16. The program begins at 8:00
p. m, Thursday, March 16, and will
include your favorite gospel songs,
spirituals and old time hymns, as
only. the Florida Boys can sing them.
We urge all the people who enjoy
good gospel singing to come out and
be entertained March 16 in the audi
torium at 8:00 p. m,
The chapter has started building on
the new barn located behind the gym
nasium. We have got the barn paid
out and are well on the way with the
construction,

P. T. A. MEETING
HELD RECENTLY
The February meeting of the Ella
Jones P. T. A. was held decently with
Mrs. Lowrey S. Stone, president, pre
siding. The association elected a nom
inting committee composed of Mrs.
Lysle McNeal, Mrs. Cary Houston, and
Mrs. Max Rupe.
The local P. T. A. will again sponsor
the Cub Scouts of Pack 91, it was an
nounced.
A Parent Education Study Course
has been planned for February 28 at
the school house. The topic will be
School Needs, and the study course
will be directed by Mrs. R. D. Hodges.
Mrs. J. T. Manry gave the inspira
tional, “Building a Foundation.”
Mrs.. Jimi Perkins, program chair
man for the month, introduced the
program. A playlet, “Behold the
Dawn,” was presented by Mrs. L. E.
McNeal, Mrs. Ralph Balkcom, Billy
Knighton, Jane Collier, and Martha
Jo Perkins. ;
Mrs. Ralph Jarrett's Fourth Grade
presented an acrostic on Founder’s
Day. Donations for Founder’s Day
were dropped into a wishing well.
Mrs. Willard Dußose's grade won
the attendance award.

NATIONAL FFA WEEK 3
The Damascus Chapter of Future,
Farmers of America were in charge of
the assembly program at the Damascus
High School on the morning of Fri
day, February 24. The week of Febru
ary 20-24 was National FFA Week.
An excellent program was presented
by members of the FFA with empha
sis placed on the imporiance of the
Future Farmers of America. :
