PTA Dinner
The Damascus Parent-Teacher Asso
ciation will sponsor a Sunday Dinner
on this coming Sunday (October 14,
1962). The menu will consist of Tur
key. dressing and all of the trimmings.
Plates to take out will begin being
served at 11:30 a. m., and the price of
plates will be 50 cents and one dollar,

school at the Albany Fair Beauty Con
test.

Jean Everson, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. O. B. Everson, was elected Presi
dent of the Damascus Senior Class.
Jean is an active member of the
Beta Club, Future Homemakers of |
America, and the Music Club. She hns‘
represented her school in Literary Ac
tivities. Jean has also been solvctvd‘
as a member of the Annual Staff,
“Most Talented”, in Who's Who, and |
is a member of the basketball team.
She represented her school at Girl's
State.
Jean is an active member of the
Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church
where she serves as pianist.

and Mrs. Joe Bryan. of Damascus, was
elected editor of the school yearbook.
The Lion's Tale. She has participated
in various activities at Damascus
High School which includes: a member
of the basketball team and a member
of the Future Homemakers of Ameri
ca. During her sophomore year, Mar
garet Jo held the office of vice-presi
dent of her class; her junior year, she
was elected reporter. She is also re
ceiver of the DAR History medal. This
year, Margaret Jo was elected presi
dent of the Beta Club, and secretary
of her class. In Who's Who, she was
selected Prettiest, Most Likely to Suc
ceed, Best All Round, Most Intellec
tual, and Miss Personality. She attends
the Damascus Missionary Baptist

Festival Queen
Anne Singletary, blue-eyed, blonde
daughter, of Mr, and Mrs. R, C. Single
tary, is the 1963 Queen of the Early
County Fear and Peanut Festival
Anne, a junior at Blakely high school
and a football cheerleader, was elect
ed over 32 other contestants at the
Peanut Festival beauty pageant held
in Legion Hall Tuesday night.
No. 1 runner-up was Alita Bell,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs, C. A, Bell;
No. 2 was Mary Jane Owen, daughter
of Mr, and Mrs. Sam Owen; No. 3 was
’Mary Willard Dußose, daughter of Mr.
‘and Mrs. Willard Dußose, and No. 4
was Becky Mellette, daughter of Rev.
and Mrs. T. B. Mellette.
Other contestants were Judy Collier,
Sandra Williams, Beverly Gilbert,
Julie Hattaway, Dale Craft, Shelia
Pitts, Linda Rabon, Angie Jarrett.
Judy Jones, Elizabeth Sessions, Karen
Barbree, June Allen, Betty Wright,
Maxine Newbberry, Chris Tarver,
Jenene Gray, Margaret Jo Bryan,
Vivian Nix, Charlotte Whitehurst,
Betty Timmons, Amelia Goocher,
Sonya Brownlee, Joy White, Joyce
Helms, Jan Ray, Susan Howell and
Veronica Bock.
Judges for the contest were Miss
Jeannie Cross, “Miss Georgia of 1963",
who also crowned the queen, of Al
bany; Mrs. Curtis Adams, a former
“Alabama Maid of Cotton”, of Dothan,
and Pete Rockett, Albany newspapei
man. Edward Balkcom was chairman
of the event, assisted by Mrs. Charlie
Houston. Mrs. Perry L. Bridges, Miss
Judy Clark and Miss Mona Jones and
Vince Hilliard. Earl (Tige) Pickle was
master of ceremonies.
While the judges were making their
decisions, the Brown Sisters—Carol,
Judy, Mary and Madeline—daughters
of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Brown, en
tertained with vocal selections, and
Miss Rita Thomas, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Chesley Thomas, did a ballet
dance number.
Cash prizes were presented the win-!
ners by Legion Commander Homer
Bush. The fair and festival continues
through Saturday night. |

ty football game played the past Fri
day night. The club met Tuesday at
the Town & Country Club with Presi
dent J. J. Hewitt presiding and Lion
Bernard Herring in charge of the pro
gram. The films were shown by Coach
Ray Knight.
