RETURNING from Lansing, Mich,,
where he attended the national sales
convention of Oldsmobile, Mr. W. R.
McKinney, of the McKinney Chevro
let Co., predicted a record breaking
sales year in Blakely for the new 1938
Oldsmobile Sixes and Eights, which
he saw on display for the first time
at the Oldsmobile factory.

EARLY COUNTY cotton ginnings
neared the 12,000 bale mark on Oc
tober 1, it was announced this week
by J. E. Widner, special Early county
agent for the Department of Com
merce, Bureau of Census.

THE NEWS of the sudden death on
Monday morning of Mr. William An
thony Lindsey, age 63, of the New
Hope community, came as a shock to
friends throughout Early county,
where Mr. Lindsey was born and spent
his entire life.

MRS. L. A, Ethridge passed away
Monday night, September 27, at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Jus
tice, at Donalsonville.

man Hatcher, of Donalsonville, were
visitors in Blakely Tuesday. |

son, Billy, accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Dunn of Cairo, spent sev
eral days in Atlanta this week.

from Atlanta, after being under treat
ment for several weeks. Friends will
be delighted to know that he is great
ly improved.

EARL GEORGE, JR. young son of
Mr. and Mrs. Earl George, sustained
a fractured collar bone last Friday
while playing football with some of
his young friends.

A YOUNG LADY, Miss Mary Joyce
Gay, arrived last Sunday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Berton Gay, at Lake
land, Fla. Mrs. Gay will be remem
bered as Miss Doris Roberts.

MR. John Quincy Scarborough, age
about 83, well-know and highly-es
teemed Early countian, died at his
home in the Pine View community of
a heart attack Wednesday morning.

LUMPKIN, GA. — A marriage of
interest was that of Miss Runette
Knighton, to Mr. J. C. Frith, which
took place Tuesday evening, Septem
ber 7, at the Lumpkin Methodist
Church, Reverend J.'N. Svell perform
ed the ceremony.

Ferrell, of the Colomokee neighbor
hood, killed fourteen small rattle
snakes in a potato bank at the home
of Mrs. Robinson last Saturday.

Dawson, after a two weeks’ visit here,

DAY
i The Early County Home Demonstra
tion clubs held their annual Achieve
ment Day program September 27, “at
the Americar Legion Hall,
Mrs. Luther Waller, County Council
President, persided. Seven clubs were
represented. Mrs. Bill Hobbs gave the
devotional, the subject being “The
Homemaker, Keeper of the Springs.”
Mrs. Waller introduced Mrs. Bessie
Mae Powers, our District Agent. Mrs.
Powers introduced our special guest,
Mrs. T. H. Hallyburton, of Albany,
Georgia,
Mrs. Hallyburton gave a very in
teresting demonstration on making
an remaking hats.
A delicious covered dish lunch was
served in the Legion kitchen. Every
one enjoyed the social hour.
Exhibits were attractively arrang
ed on long tables in the Legion hall,
by six clubs. The Blakely Homemak
ers, Cuba, Freeman, Lucile, Rowena
and Union clubs.
Winners were named as follows:
Club of the Year — Union.
Record books: Union Ist; Freeman,
2nd; Blakely Homemakers, 3rd.

Cuba. 3rd.
Scrapbook, Union Ist; Blakely
Homemakers 2nd; Cuba, 3rd.
Mrs. Vincent Willis was Homemaker
of the year.
Mrs. John Hayes, president of the
Union H. D. Club, gave the report of
the clubs achievements for the year.
Mrs. Randall Cox won the surprise
package.
Gifts were given to the judges, Miss
Nellie Mae Whitehead, H. D. agent of
Miller County; Mrs. H. A. Harlin and
Mrs. C. E. Crozier of Colquitt and to
special guest for the day.
The meeting adjourned.

County Grand Jury were published in
The News this week. J. D. Jones was
named as Notary Public for the 86th
‘district. The jury also recommended
the establishment of a chain gain in
