CARD OF THANKS
Dear friends, in Blakely, I wish to
thank each of you for your kindness
and expressions of love and sympathy
tendered me at the time of the recent
death of my husband. During visits to
my sister, Mrs. Larry Barbree. I have
come to know a number of people in
Blakely, and already I have learned
the most wonderful people reside
there. You all are so kind and sweet
and wonderful,

NOTICE
Beginning Monday November 5, at
7:30 p. m., at the Blakely Vocational
Agriculture Department, Mr. Tony
A. Williams will conduct a Welding
Clinic for farmers in this school area.
This clinic will consist of ten meet
ings and will include instruction in
both electric and arc and oxy-acety
lene welding.
Some of the areas being taught in
the class will be cutting, welding in
flat, horizontal, vertical and over
head positions, bronze welding, silver
soldering cast iron welding and hard
surfacing of metal.
Certificates will be awarded to those
individuals with 1007 attendance.
Interested persons should contact
Mr. Williams because enrollment will
be limited.

CHAPTER NEWS
\
Initiation is a year event enjoyed
by both old and new members of the
Blakely FHA chapter. Although some
initiations are thought of as being just
fun and foolishness, the 30 new mem
bers of FHA began their initiation by
making a real contribution to their
chapter. On Hobo day, September 22,
they proved their loyalty and interest
by working hard all day. The $114.00
made was added to the chapter treas
ury. This money is used to finance
the trin to District meetings and other
chapter activities during the year.
The second phase of the initiation‘
consisted of an assembly program
which the new members presented on
September 28. The theme for this
year's initiation was “Under the FHA
Big Top” to carry out this theme the
new members dressed as circus per
formers. Their costumes were judged
on originality and a prize was given
for the winner. Peggy Wimberley.

Murkerson, who portrayed a fat lady.
The climax of initiation was th> en
nual Family Night, attended by 13
parents and girls on October 3. Tol

girls presented a program consisting o
a devotional, installation of ollicers
and the formal ceremonv in which “h
new members were officially rcceiv
ed into the chapter.

Far East Service
Larry Shoemaker, son of Mr. and
Mrs. L. H. Shoemaker, Route 5, Blake
ly, was recently assigned to the SS
Genevieve Lykes of the Lykes Bros.
Steamship Co., engaged in the Far
trade, as part of his second year of
training at the U. S. Merchant Marine
Academy, Kings Point. N Y., one of
five federal academies.
His year at sea is a regular part of
the four course offered at the Aca
demy to train qualified olficers for
the ships of our Merchant Marine.
This year of sea duty is unigue for
it not only gives the Cadet an oppor
tunity to gain first-hand knowledge
of the operation of the types of ships
on which he may later serve as a deck 1
officer, but also enrolls the Cadet as |
an ambassador in promoting good will |
in ports of call in friendly nations
around the world. ‘
