EARLY COUNTY NEWS, BLAKELY, GEORGIA
.7/&55 /l/{/eeé
By EARL “TIGE” PICKLE
Ralph Jarrett, the farmer,
who has been known to fish a
little on occasions himself,
brought me this story. Ralph
said two fellows left early one
morning on a two-day fishing
expedition, leaving their wives
at home. About mid-morning
the wives made the unhappy dis
covery that their husbands
didn’t take all their fishing
tackle, but left some of it hidden
in the attic of the garage. “Oh,
ho,” said the wives, “something
is going on.” And so they piled
into another car and took off for
the fishing lodge where their
husbands were supposed to be.
“I bet they didn’t even go”,
they decided, “but let’s go see.”
Arriving at the fishing lodge,
the good ladies were terribly
embarrassed to see the car park
ed right in front of the lodge.
Yes, they were fishing. They
were at a loss for words, and
they were about to turn the car
around and leave when the
lodge manager came out to see
if he could wait on them.
To cover up their supicious
nature and to keep the manager
from discovering what they
were doing down there, they
simply asked: “We were just
looking for those two men who
are driving that car with the
Georgia tag. They are here, are
they not?”
“Yes, they are,” answered the
man, “and you two women bet
ter get the heck out of here.
They brought their wives with
them this time.”

To cheer up Billy Pete,
though, I would like to say that
Billy is {" e best public address
operator ¢f any who operate in
our B footoall region. Billy calls
the games when the Bobcats are
at home, and does an excellent
job. He has an uncanny ability
of following the ball, and how
ing what players make the
tackle. Many of these announc
ers imagine themselves to be a
Lindsey Nelson or a Chuck
Thompson and try to describe
the game as if he were a radio
announcer. They had one like
that at Hawkinsville. But, not
Billy. He doesn’t throw in all
that editorial work like some of
them. Billy made one mistake
several years ago and he says
the fans won’t ever let him for
get it. A black glove, belonging
to a lady, was turned in at the
press box, and when Billy
sought the owner, he announced
that a “black lady’s glove had
been found.”

Something I bet you didn't
know ’til now and I didn’t know
until I read it in the World Book

Millinocket, Maine, now an al

of newsprint in North America,
and the paper you are reading
right now was probably made
there.

Only Certain GI Policies
May Be Reinsiuted
Atlanta — GI insurance policies
which have been allowed to lapse may
NOT be re-instated under present law
with but two exceptions, Georgia
Veterans Service Director Pete Wheel
er reminded again this week.
A bill which would have re-opened
the GI insurance program for a one
pear period was given considerable
publicity recently but failed to pass
the Congress.
The two exceptions under which
lapsed policies may still be re-instated
are:
1. Veterans who have service since
April 25, 1951, and have recently been
ruled by the Veterans Administration
to have a service-connected disability
have a period of one year from the
date of that decision to obtain a spe
cial RH policy. This special provision
also applies to members of the Nation
al Guard and the Reserves who incur
service-connected disabilities during
regular weekly drills or during active
duty periods.
2. Any policy may be re-instated
provided the 5-year term in which the
policy was lapsed has not expired.
Meanwhile, holders of GI insurance
policies will receive both a regular
and a special dividend during the
month of January, according to a de-!
cision made last week by the White
House.
Regular dividends are normally
paid on the anniversary date of the
policy, but all such dividends for 1963
will be paid during the first month of
the year.
Insurance dividends are paid auto
matically to policy-holders and no ap
plication is necessary. Anyone de
siring advice or assistance on GI in
surance, however, should contact the
nearest office of the Georgia Depart
ment of Veterans Service which is lo
cated at Blakely, Ga.
