BARL (TIGE) PICKLE, TREASURER
gram of the DAR Diamond Jubi
lee, Administration, under the
leadership of Mrs. Sullivan.
The work will be carried out
during the summer months to
prepare the hall for the grand
opening in October, the 76th an
niversary of the DAR, and the
beginning of the concert season,
Both the Washington National
Symphony and the National Geo
graphic Society, the most consis
tent tenants, are delighted with
this progressive step.
Blue and gold will be the color
scheme, special designs have
been created by R. Stanley Smith,
Interior Designer, to effect a
Classic Revival motit appropriate
to the Federal Period, shades of
white with some gilding will be
used to accent the classic mold
ings.
“One of the beautiful features
will be the new stage curtains,"
Mrs. Sullivan said, Scalamandre
Silks, Inc., of New York, will
provide the custom-woven mat
terial with gold medallions and
stars on a blue background and
a border of eagles surrounded
with garlands.
Vinyl wallcovering in the same
notif will cover the front of the
boxes and exit walls around the
auditorium. All row seating will
be re-upholstered in gold cut
velvet, Due to the absorbing
quality of the carpet, the Na
tional Symphony asked that the
aisles be left uncarpeted, they
will be covered with an inlaid
pure vinyl tile in a carpet de
sign of blue and gold. The fifty
boxes are to be completely re
decorated, gold cut-velvet chairs,
blue wool and nylon carpet in
two shades, and gold vinyl wall
covering.
The spacious U-shaped lobby
will also accent the Federal style
motif. Architectural trim will be
be highlighted in shades of
white. The curtains in the lobby
will repeat the medallion and
star motif, trimmed with a gold
braid and the valance treatment
will have a molded drop fringe,
all appropriate to the Federal
design.
Empire green wtih yellow and
white has been chosen for the
Lower Lounge. The existing chan
deliers and wall aconces need
only be cleaned, new furniture in
straight-line and classic design
has been planned. Both the ladies,
lounge and the men’'s lounge are
scheduled for a freshening de
cor.
Constitution Hall, including the
auditorium, lobbies and lounge
areas will be air conditioned, this
will be accomplished by using
the existing ventilation system,
installed when the building was
constructed.
Designed for a seating capacity
of 4,020, the primary purpose of
the Hall was to house the annual
DAR meetings, however it is in
demand as a cultural center and
along with the beauty and com
fort, the auditorium has been
praised for its acoustics, which
remain an outstanding feature.

either side of the stage, is just above the marble stairs.
In the puilding of Constitution

is the courage displayed by the

costly venture. At ‘hat time,
Mrs. Alfred J. Brosseau, Presi
