The Early County High School

TWO SENIORS
ARE FEATURED
The two featured seniors this
week at Early County High School
are Esther Lovering and Karen
Harris.
Esther is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas E. Wright, Sr.
She was a member of FHA her
freshman and sophomore years.
She has been a member of the
FBLA Club for the past two
years. This year she is serving
as Vice President. She also
holds her Assistant Degree in
FBLA. This year she is a
member of the Beta Club, and
she is serving as typist on the
Annual Staff. Esther is enrolled
in the Business Education pro
gram at Early County High
School.
Karen Harris is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Harris.
She has been a member of FHA
for four years. She was Co-
Chairman of recreation her
Sophomore year and this year
is serving as Co-Chairman of
the Parent Daughter Celebration.
She has received her Junior De
gree in FHA. Karen was a
member of the Beta Club during
her Junior year.

the featured new teacher this
week is Mrs. Othell Evans, a
fifth grade science teacher, Her
family consists of her mother and
two sons, Jacel and Edwin.
She attended North Georgia
College, the Uhlversity of Geor
gia, and Georgia State College
for Women in Milledgeville. She
has taught school in Seminole,
Calhoun, Stevens, and Early
County.
SENIOR BETA CLUB
The Early County Senior Beta
Club met February 6 with Janie
Bryan, president-elect, presid
ing. Sandra Starkie gave some
rules on "How to Understand
Your Parents.” You should be
polite, be very friendly, be plea
sant, compliment your parents,
show them esteem, be patient,
help them, and show them love.
Supt. Lonnie Chester spoke to
the Club on Americanism. He
talked about the origin of our
country, the love we should have
for it, and the defense of our
country.
Refreshments were served by
Janis Kidd, Tricia Bridges, Rita
Sprulell, Clink Alexander, Wally
Houston, Danny White, and Jo
anna Dean.

Theresa Moore
Theresa Moore, 16, a junior
at Early County High School,
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Roy L. Moore, 705 Weaver Dr.,
Blakely, Ga.
She is a former FT A member
and worked in the High school
office her sophomore year.
This is her first year in VICA
and she is club secretary.
Theresa is a member of South
side Baptist Church where she
is vice-president of the Young
People's Training Uhlon.
One thing the Russians haven’t
claimed to be first at is the in
vention of the credit card.

The Southwest Georgia
Christian Life Conference and
Civic Youth Day were the main
Items discussed at the Hi-^T
meeting, February P, at Early
County High School.
Civic Youth Day was explained
by Danny Westbrook, who an
nounced the schedule of events
as follows: Registration of vo
ters, Monday and Tuesday, Feb.
19-20; Qualification of candi
dates, Feb. 20-21; Candidates
will meet for instruction, Feb.
23; from Feb. 26 until March 1
the candidates will campaign.
There will be a campaign as
sembly at 8;45 a.m., Friday,
March 1, when candidates will
give a short campaign speech;
the election will be held during
lunch hour Friday, noon, March
1, and results announced on Mon
day, March 4. The elected Youth
City Council will make appoint
ments on March 4 and Civic Youth
Day will be held March 6. Addi
tional announcements about Civic
Youth Day will be made on sche
duled days.
President Charles Hobbs led in
the discussion of last minute
plans for recruiting donors for
the Red Cross Bloodmoblie. Stu
dents throughout high school were
asked to cooperate In securing
donors and 1500 forms were sent
out, requesting parents to reply
if they would or would not donate
a pint of blood.

School Hi-Y boys will attend
the Southwest Georgia Christian
Life Conference in Tifton, Feb.

The VICA Club of Early County
High School held its regular mon
thly meeting, Monday, February
12, in the DCT classroom at
Early County High School.
President Phyllis Hatcher
called the meeting to order at
7:30 p.m. Franklin Mulkey gave,
the Invocation. Theresa Moore
secretary, reported on the last
meeting.
Mr. Davis, advisor, introduc
ed the guest speaker for the even
ing , j. W. Bancroft, administra
tor at Early Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Bancroft gave a every en
lightlng talk concerning em
ployee-employer relations.
Refreshments were served by
Jaynce Johns, Sandra Smith, and
Janice Nobles.
7TH GRADE WINS
The Seventh Grade boys and
girls turned on the steam here
in cage action Friday afternoon
and rolled past Baker County
with an overwhelming victory.
Cheryl Harvey led the win
ners for the girls with 33 points.
Others scoring for Blakely were
Stephanie Still, 6 points: Linda
Hickok, 6; Cynthia Cleveland, 2;
Melanie Still, 6. Final score
53-26.
For the boys, Andy Bush led
with 14 points. Others scoring
for Blakely were, Mickey Reeves,
2; Dean White, 10, Paul Harper,
6; Bill EXicatl, 6.
6; Bill Ducati, 6. Final score
38-28.
The season record for the
girls, coached by Mrs. Edna
Golden, is 4-0. The boys coach
ed by David Rivenbark, have a
season record of 4-0.
The next games are scheduled
Feb. 27 In Arlington.

man, program chairman. Carl
Hobbs gave the devotional,
"Love-Build on Giving”, from
the Scripture, Ist Corinthians
13:1-7.
Refreshments were served by
the Hospitality chairman, Jacel
Evans.

Early Schools
The Ella Jones PTA will hold
Open House at the Early County
Elementary School at the month
ly meeting, February 20, at 7
o’clock when the teachers will
be hostess In their respective
rooms and parents may visit
their children's home room and
have a chance to become better
acquainted with the students'
class room activities and ac
complishments and visit with the
teacher.
At 8 p.m., the business session
of the organization will be held
in the Elementary School Audi
torium. A Founder’s Day Pro
gram will be directed by Mrs.
Bruce Houston.
The executive committee met
Monday night at the Bank of Early
with President Howard Pugh,
presiding. Supervising Princi
pal Frank Buckner and Mrs.
Phillip Spence, representing
Principal Joe Cannon, met with
the committee and recommend
ed that the money earmarked
by the PTA for school improve
ments be used to secure six
classroom record players and
two new projectors, one for the
Elementary School and one for
High School auditorium.
President Pugh asked Mrs.
Spence to secure more Informa
tion on the type and the cost of
proposed equipment and report
to the executive committee at
the next meeting.
The PTA will sponsor a Talent
Show In April. Mrs. J. M. Kit
chens was named Chairman and
Mrs. William J. Mills, co-ordi
nator.

congratulates Mrs. Eula Jordon
for having won the recognition
as the Early County Teacher of
the Year.

Mrs. Eula Jordan
Mrs. Eula Robinson Jordon,
the daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William Robinson, was born
In Early County, Georgia. She
was reared In a family of seven.
Mrs. Jordon received her early
education in the public schools of
Early County. She completed her
College education at the Albany
State College with a B. & De
gree in Elementary Education.
Further study has been done at
TUskegee Institute, Tuskegee,
Alabama.
She has traveled extensively
in the United States through Geor
gia, Alabama, Florida, Ohio, Illi
nois, California, New York, and
Newark, New Jersey. She visited
such places of interest as the
Girl Scouts Camp in Ohio; the
Empire State Building In New
York: and the Natural History,
Science Museum, McCormick In
dustry and the planetarium in
Chicago, Illinois.
Mrs. Jordon Is a registered
voter and exercises her rights
In every election. She feels that
a citizen as well as an educator
should be well versed, for this
reason, she subscribes to the fol
lowing newspapers and periodi
cals: Atlanta Constitution, Grade
Teacher, N. E. A. Journal, Scout
Leader’s Magazine, Herald and
Instructor.
Her professional affiliations
include membership in GTEA,
NEA, and Early County Teacher's
Association.
She is an experienced teacher
who is dedicated to the teaching
profession which exemplified’
her continuous effort to keep
abreast with current trends In
education. Before school con
solidation she worked faithful In

Washington Elementary School
as a Fourth Grade Teacher.
She Is a member of the Ro
sin vic k Missionary Baptist
Church and holds the following
positions: Chaplain of the Mis
sion Board, Choir Leader,
Treasurer of the Usher Board,
Sunday School Teacher of the
Adult Class, and President of
the Missionary Dept, of Friend
ship Baptist Association.
She Is the wife of Sim Jordon
and the mother of two sons,
Andrew Jordon and Claude Ro
binson.
The faculty of Washington High
School recently selected as Its
Teacher-of-the-year the Chair
man of the Department of Mathe
matics, Earle B. Robinson. This
represents the second time that
he has been accorded this re
cognition since being at the Wash
ington High School.

He is a native of Columbia,
South Carolina, a graduate of
Allen Uhlversity with additional
atudy at Kent State University
and St. Augustine College.
He Is a veteran of the United
States Air Force-
His teaching experience In
cludes two years in Spartanburg,
South Carolina and seven years
at the Washington High School.
In addition to his duties as
mathematics teacher, he Is
chairman of the Mathematics De
partment, Senior Class Chair
man, Yearbook Advisor. He Is a
member of National Education
Association, Georgia Teacher,®
and Education Association ancj
National Council of Mathematics
Teachers.
He Is married and the father
of three children and is very
much interested Incivic and com-1
munity affairs.
