Mrs. Randall Reese
Miss Lucy Ann Still became
the bride of Randall Garvin Reese
in a four o’clock ceremony Sunday
afternoon, June 16, at the Zion
Free Will Baptist Church, Blak
ely, with the Reverend Daniel
Pelt officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs Martin Still of
Blakely; Mr Reese is the son
of Mr and Mrs Garvin Reese
of Macon, Georgia.
Church decorations were of a
background of emerald fern trees
with the pulpit rail banked with
polished magnolia foliage. The
center of interest was a sun
burst arrangement of pink and
white gladioli and pink carna
tions; with similararrangements
on either side of the seven
branched candelabra holding
lighted pink tapers.
Mrs. Perry L Bridges,organ
ist and Mrs. J. T. Manry, soloist,
presented the wedding music.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a lovely
white wedding gown of peau de
soie, fashioned with a yoke and
bell shaped sleeves of Alencon
lace- Madebythebride’smother,
the semi-fitted A-line dress, fea
tured a shaped back hemline
and a chapel train of lace falling
gracefully from the back yoke.
Her elbow length veil of sheer
bridal illusion was attached to
a floral headpiece of lace and
pearls- She carried a cascade
bouquet of white butterfly roses,
fleur d'amour and stephanotis
centered with a white orchid
and accented with minature ivy
and satin ribbon streamers. The
bouquet was mounted on a lace
and peau de soie covered Bible,
which was given the bride by her
parents in December, 1956

inverted back pleat and Martin
gale belts, jewel neckline and
elbow length sleeves. The ma
tron of honor and flower girl’s
gowns were of deep pink crepe
and the bridemaids gowns were of
a lighter shade of pink Their
headpieces were double flat pink
velvet bows with streamers of
a matching shade. They carried
colonial nosegays of pink sweet
heart roses and carnations ac
cented with picot ribbon stream
ers The little flower girl car
ried a basket tied with deep pink
ribbons which held pink rose
petals.

corsage was of yellow cymbidium
orchids. The bride's maternal
grandmother, Mrs. C. W. Mose
ley, wore a powder blue crepe
dress, her corsage was of pink
cymbidium orchids.

Awarded ABAC
Science Award
Miss Martha Jo Perkins was
awarded the Associate in Science
Degree in a two year course in
Elementary Education at Abra
ham Agricultural College, Tif
ton, Georgia, on June 8, at 10;00
a.m.
Dr. Loyal V. Norman, Aca
demic Dean, presented the candi
dates.
Miss Perkins is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Per
kins of 630 Wade Road, Blakely.
The bride’s parents entertain
ed at a reception in the church
fellowship hall immediately fol
lowing the ceremony. Mrs. Hol
lis Still, aunt of the bride, greet
ed guest at the door
The bride’s book was kept by
Miss Joanna Martin of Macon.
The round table held a bud vase
with pink carnations and was
covered with a white satin cloth
overlaid with net and lace edging.
The bride’s table and refresh
ment table were overlaid with a
lace cloth over pink and held
a silver candelabra with aneper
genette of greenery and pink rib--
bons and four tall lighted pink
tapers.
The four tiered wedding cake,
was embossed with pink roses
in light and deep pink, similar
to the colors used throughout
the wedding The top tier was
upheld by four pink columns,
and topped with the traditional
minature bride and groom. Ruf
fles of pink satin and white lace
encircled the cake at the base.
The refreshment table was
similar to the bride’s table.
Punch was served from a crystal
punch bowl. Lovely arrange
ments of carnations and gladioli,
carrying out the pink and white
wedding colors, formed a back
ground for the refreshment
tables. Assisting in serving
were Miss Cathy Still, Mrs. John
L Still, Mrs. Hoyle .McLendon,
Mrs. Earl Chandler, all of Blak
ely; Miss Martha Gardener.
Oglethorpe, Ga., and Miss zAngie
Gattie, Macon, Georgia.
After the reception, the couple
left for a wedding trip to Florida.
The bride chose for traveling a
double knit, three-piece navy blue
suit and navy accessories. She
wore the orchid lifted from her
bridal bouquet. The couple will
reside in Mayon during the sum
mer and will return to Georgia
Southern College, Statesboro, in
September.
Rehearsal
On Friday evening, June 15,
the groom’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Garvin Reese entertained at
a dinner party at Brown’s Res
taurant, Blakely, following the
rehearsal. Thirty-six guests
attended
The long tables held small
arrangements of pink carnations
and single candleholders with tall
pink candles.
Parties
Among the parties given for
Miss Still were a miscellaneous
shower given by Miss Cathy Still
at her home on Friday, June 14.

low day lilies decorated the party
rooms. The honoree was pre
sented a yellow rosebud cor
sage upon arrival After seve
ral games had been conducted
gifts were opened. The hostess
presented Miss Ann Still with a
gift of linen. Delicious party
delicacies were served to the
fifteen attending. Mrs. Robert
McLendon of Edison, assisted
her sister. Miss Cathy Still in
serving.
The ladies of the Zion Free
Will Baptist Church entertained
at a miscellaneous shower in
honor of Miss Still, at the social
hall of the church recently.
Eclipse roses in handsome ar
rangements decorated die hall.
Games centering around the bri
dal theme were conducted After
the honoree opened the gifts,
refreshments were served to die
thirty guests present.
Mrs Charlie Houston honor

party, Thursday at the Houston
home on Grove Place. A lovely
arrangement of Queen Elizabetli
roses on the dining table and pink
rosebuds on the coffee table deco
rated the reception rooms Party
delicacies and iced colas were
served to the fifteen attending.
Mrs Houston presented the hon
oree with an electric clock.

Church, Birmingham, Alabama
at seven thirty o’clock, the even -

Miss Roberts is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Hamp
ton Roberts of Birmingham; Mr.
Askew’ is the son of Mr and Mrs.
Benjamin Hand Askew of Atlanta
and the grandson of Mrs Phil
lip Hamilton Fitzgerald and the
late Dr. Fitzgerald of Blakely and
Mrs [Benjamin Hand Askew, Jr.,
and the late Mr Askew of Arling
ton, Georgia.
The bride was given in marri
age by her father She wore a
gown of ivory silk organdy and
alencon lace embroidered with
pearls and crystals. The em
pire bodice featured brief sleeves
and a cameo neckline The A
line skirt was enhanced with
scatter appliques of lace and the
watteau train flowed to chapel
length. Her veil of Brussels
lace was worn mantilla fashion
She carried a crescent cascade
style bouquet of gardenias and
white roses.

Coca-Cola Salad
2 pk'. cherry jello and 1 pk
gelatin
I large can Bing cherries
2 - 3 oz. pks cream cheese
I large can crushed pineapple
2 coca - colas
I cup chopped pecan-
Use juice from cherries and
pineapple and heat to boiling
point, add jello: stir until dis
solved - add cokes. Allow to
congeal slightly, then add crum
bled cream cheese, cherries,
pineapple and pecans. Let stand
in refrigerator several hours.
Cheese Salad Roll
1 lb. cheese, shredded
1 cup chopped, toasted pecans
1 /’4 cup chopped pimiento
4 hard boiled egg yolks, chopped
1 3 cup chopped pickles
1 '2 teaspoon salt
1 '2 teaspoon cayenne peppier
Combine all ingredients; blend
thoroughly, then work the mix
ture like dough. Shape into
a roll and wrap in wax paper,
(.hill in refrigerator 24 hours
before serving. Slice and serve
on crisp lettuce, lightly dressed
with French dressing.
Cream Cheese Cookies
1 cup shortening
1-3 oz pk- cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tespoon grated orange peel
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose
flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Cream shortening and cream
cheese well- Add sugar and con
tinue creaming. Beat in egg yolk,
vanilla and orange peel- Sift
flour and salt, add to creamed

left for a honeymoon to Jekyll
Island, feorgia.
After the honeymoon the bride
and groom will be at home in
Tallahassee, Florida where Mr
Askew is a graduate student at
Florida State University.
mixture- Chill several hours
Slice and bake in 350 degree
oven until light tan.
Pineapple Filling for Layer
Cake
2 2/3 cup- sugar
I cup milk
Cook until soft ball stage.
Add;
1 large can drained crushed
pineapple
1 can angel flake cocoanut
1/3 cup butter
1 cup chopped toasted pecans
(optional)
( ream well; spread between
layers. Cover entire cake with
white icing.
Coffee Cake
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
4 eggs, separated
I'4 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
3 level teaspoon-, baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Sift flour twice Reserve 1/2
cup flour after sifting and add
baking powder to tliis Sift and
set aside
Make mixture of:
1/2 cup sugar
1 T. cinnamon
11/2 T. cocoa
Set aside.
Cream sugar and shortening
Add egg yolk s, one at a time
Add flour and milk alternately
.Add salt to egg whites and beat
till stiff. Add the 1/2 cup flour
mixture to batter; then fold in
egg whites
Place 1/3 batter in greased
or teflon tube pan, sprinkle
generously with cinnamon mix
ture and so on until all batter
is in pan. Bake 1 hour at 375
degrees

Wins Triple
Honors Recently
Beverly E. Gilbert, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Gilbert,
Blakely, piano pupil of Raymond
[Dudley and a junior at the Uni
versity of Cincinnati College-
Conservatory of Music, received
triple honors at the music
school's recent Recognition Day
ceremonies.
She was presented die Dorothy
B. Albers Memorial Scholarship,
the Symphony Club Award, and the
Marcian Thalbery Memorial A
ward, the latter given to that
member of Alpha Chapter, Del
ta Omicron who is a piano major
with the highest average
.A University Honor Scholar
ship student, Miss Gilbert is
working toward the Bachelor of
Music degree at Cincinnati’s
Conservatory where she has won
several scholarships, awards and
piano competitions.
She is a 1965 graduate of Blak
ely (now Early County) High

Judy Allen
Receives Army
Appointment
Judith L Allen of Blakely has
received an Army Dietetic in
ternship appointment for 1968-69
and will be commissioned a se
cond lieutenant in the Army Medi
cal Specialist Corps. She will
graduate in June from the Uni
versity pf Georgia with a major
in dietetics and institutional
management in the School of
Home Economics. After suc
cessfully completing the twelve
month Dietetic Intership pro
gram in one of the Army’s large
teaching hospitals, she will be
promoted to first lieutenant and
will be eligible for membership
in the American Dietetic As
sociation.
More than seven hundred col
lege graduates who are prepar
ing for futures in dietetics are
accepted each year by the sixty
five internships approved by the
American Dietetic Association.
This organization has a mem
bership of over 20,000 diete
tians and nutritionists. [Diete
tic internships bridge the wide
chasm between the completion
of college courses and the de
mands for competency in a work
ing situation and helps in further
professional advancement and
development.

I would like to take this means

for the cards, flowers, visitsand
prayers for me while I was in
the hospital. I also want to thank
the nurses, aides and all the per
sonnel of the hospital for their
thoughtfulness and kindness to
