FHA’ers Held
Annual Fall
Workshop
The Early County Future
Homemakers of America held
their annual Fall Workshop on
Thursday, August 15, atthe Early
County High School Economics
Department. President Jackie
Colson presided at the meeting.
Each new officer and her assis=
tant attended along with several
committee chairman. The
various activities of the day were
centered around the theme, ''Up
Up and Away With F.H,A,”' The
morning devotional was present=
ed by Dyanne Lewis, Sue Glass,
Terry Smith, and Carole King.
Mr. Frank Buckner addressed
the meeting, challenging the girls
to make a success of their lives.
Several committee reports
were given. Mary Ann Jester
refreshed everyone's memory on
Parliamentary procedure with
several filmstrips. A quiz was
given testing everyone’'s know=
ledge of F.H.A. Rebecca Knigh=-
ton and Sue Johnston received
prizes "as winners of this quiz.
Susan Askew, a former mem
ber and officer in the organi
zation, urged the girls to make
the most of their F.H.A. Image.
Several catchy songs and re=
laxers were conducted by Beth
Owen. Ruth Perkins presented
a report on the activities held at
the State F.F.A.-F.IHLA. Camp.
The delegates that attended
National Convention, Judy Col=
lier, Jackie Colson, and Rebecca
Knighton, covered the events of
their exciting week in Miami.
Lisa Jordan, who recently
made a tour in Europe, gave a
few of the highlights of her in=
teresting trip.
Mr. Lonnie Chester presented
some guidelines to success in life
in his talk to the girls. Each
new officer and her assistant
was introduced to the group by
Annette Davis. A buffet lunch
was served. Candie Clifton con=
ducted several group relaxers

4-H Congress
The highlight of the Georgia
4-H Club year is scheduled for
Atlanta, August 20-23, and one
Early Countian will be on handto
participate in ft.
The 26th annual State 4-H Con
gress will draw some 300 dis
tricts and state 4-H Club cham=
plons, including the following
local girl, Ronda Waller, Rt. 3,
Blakely.
Ronda, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs Luther Waller, will be try
ing for the state title in Frozen
Foods. It will take her only
about 20 minutes to give her
educational demonstration, but
she will be busy from the time
she leaves Tuesday until she
returns home Friday.
The headquarters hotel is the
Dinkler Plaza, and the 4-H'ers,
along with County Agents and
County Extension Home Econo
mist, will begin registering at
2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Con=-
gress officially opens at a 7:;15
assembly that evening. First,
however, there will be a get
acquainted dinner at 6:30, com~
pliments of the Citizens and
Southern National Bank. And
after the assembly, a get
acquainted party is scheduled
on the roof of the Dinkler.
Wednesday and Thursday will
be the big days as far as the
competition goes. Demonstra
tions in some 40 projects will
be given, and state winners will
be announced throughout both
davs.
The Congress is conducted by
the University of Georgia
Cooperative Extension Service.
