First Free Will
Adopts New
Budget For Year
The largest and mostprogres=-
sive budget in the history of the
church was recently adopted by
the First Free Will Baptist
Church. This program of finance
Was presented at the annual
church conference which met this
past week. Fraturing aproposed
building section equaling nearly
one-third of the total the budget
is 170% above the budget for the
last year,
The previous budget, which was
the first ever adoptedby the local
church, proposed an income
nearly twice that of the previous
year. The giving of the church
actually increased to approxi
mately two and one half times
that of any previous year to date.
Presently the church supports
not only a local ministry but
Foreign and Home Missionaries
on five continents, a Children’s
‘Home, a Denominational Co =
lege, an aged ministers’ retire
ment plan, the Church Training
Service of the denomination and
many other phases of anevangeli
cal ministry.
At this conference the
assembly also elected their of
ficers for the coming year. They

Mrs. Evelyn Gee was hostess
recently to the Blakely Garden
-Club in her home on River Street.
Mrs. Lloyd George was co=hos=-
tess.
Mrs. Gee’s home was beauti=-
fully decorated with greenery
and flowers from her yarde
Mrs. Robert Stuckey presided
over the meeting in the absence
of the president, Mrs. Js B.
Rice.
Mrs. A. H, Lanier was ap
pointed to replace Mrs. Char
les Bush, as secretarye Mrs.
Bush has resigned from the Club.
Mrs. Hoyle Fleming will fill
another vacancy, Treasurer,
formerly held by Mrs. Reese
Camp who has moved from
Blakely.
Mrs. Milton Bryant gave an
informative talk on Garden
Therapy.
Horticultural tips were given
by Mrs. Pascal Jenkins.
Mrs. Gee gave an interesting:
and informative program on land
scaping. She brought out the im=-
portance of balance, unity and
simplicity -in ' landscaping; the
importance of having a plan be
fore planting, starting with a
scale drawing of the yard. She
said, ‘‘Restraint should be used
to avoid over planting, being
careful to use flowers or flo
wering plants as an accent. Har
mony in planting shouldbe stres
sed throughout to give a restful
affect to the landscapinge
Mrs., Howard Davenport was
accepted a s a new member of
the Garden Club.
The next meeting will be in
the home of Mrs., Ralph Hut
chins on Octs 3. Mrs. L. E,
Wallis will be co~hostess.
Sandwiches and a desert course
were served by the hostesses.
After which guests were given
a tour of Mrs. Gee'shome ending
in her terrace room which over
looks a beautifully landscaped
back yard.

Jaycettes Held
Regular Meet
Past Week
The Blakely Jaycettes held
their monthly meeting Wednesday
night, September 11, at 8:;00
o'clock in the community room
of the Bank of Early.
Jaycees Norman Chadwell and
Billy McFay attended the meeting
to solicit the aid of the Jaycettes
for ‘the All-Night-Sing to be held
September 28. Mr, Chadwell is
Chairman of the project for the
Jaycees and Mr. McFay is chair=-
man of advance ticket salese
The sing will be held at Standi
fer Field and in case of incle=-
ment weather the High School
Auditorium and Gymnasium will
be used. All proceeds from this
event will go to purchase special
equipment for a classroom for
Early County’s mentally retard
ed children. Mr. Chadwell an
nounced in conjunction with the
sing an Amateur Hour will be
held from 7:00 to 8:00 o’clocke
Interested persons should con
tact Mr., Chadwell. The Jay
cettes will be in charge of con
cessions.
Miss Cheryl Houston, Blake
ly’s Junior Miss, was a special
guest at the meeting. She was
introduced by Mrs. Ronald Tay
lors Cheryl told the Jaycettes
about her trip to the state Junior
Miss Pageant in Cartersville in
January,
Preliminary plans for this
year’'s Junior Miss Pageantwere
initiated with Mrs. Ben Cooper,
appointed Chairman; and Mrs.
Ronald Taylor, co-chairman.
The pageant will be held the last
of November.
Mrs. Ray Perkins was appoint=
ed as chairman of the Jaycettes
Speak-Up Program, a program
designed to develop leadership
and speaking ability within the
Jaycette organization.
The President, Mrs. Rodney
Boyett adjourned the meeting with
the Jaycette Creed. Refresh
ments Were served by Mrs. Felix
Davis, 111, and Mrs, Billy McFay.

Miss Judy Yvonne Carter,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L, E,
Carter, of Orlando, Florida, be
came the bride of Charles Mid
dleton, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Middleton of Blakely, at
an impressive candlelight cere
mony, Wednesday evening, Sep
tember 18, at Colomokee Baptist
Church with the Rev. Ivaloy Loper
performing the double ring cere
‘mony.
Boston ferns formed the back
ground for candletrees garlanded
with ivy in the sanctuary. A large
center arrangement of chrysan
themums, gladioli, dahlias and
greenery placed on a pedestal
formed the focal point at the altar,
Mrs, Ivaloy Loper, vocalist,
sang ‘‘The Sweetest Story Ever
Told’’ and ‘‘Whither Thou Goest'’
during the ceremony and ‘‘Oh,
Perfect Love’’ while the couple
knelt at the altar. Mrs. Maurine
Bostwick presented the nuptial
musice
The bride given in marriage
by an uncle, Jack B, Sammons
of Blakely, ~was radiant .in a
white street-length sleeveless
dacron knit dress featuring scal
lops at neckline and heme Her
double-tiered veil of silk illusion
was held by a wedding ring satin
band accented with sequins,
pearls and appliques of lace.
She carried a white Bible with
a white orchid, net and satin
streamers,
Miss Jenny Carter, the bride’s
sister and only attendant, wore a
yellow knit dress fashioned along
the same lines as the bride’'s.
She carried a single long
stemmed yellow rosebud.
Tommy Gilbert, of Blakely,
served as best man., Ushers
were Randy Brooks and Homer
Willis.
The bride’'s mother chose for
her daughter’'s wedding, a light
blue knit dress with a double
breasted effect. She used white
accessories to accent her cos=-
tume and her corsage was of
yellow carnations.
The groom’s mother was at
tired in a beige linen dress fea
turing a scoop neck with a dark
paisley scarf, with matching
accessories. Her corsage was
of yellow carnations.
RECEPTION
Immediately following the
ceremony, a reception was held
at the home of the bride’s aunt
and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
B. Sammons, in Blakely. :
Mrs. Bobby ‘King, another aunt
of the bride, kept the bride’s
books Yellow rosebuds in a
crystal budvase decorated the
table.
The refreshment table was
overlaid with yellow linen and
beige lace cloths. The three
tiered wedding cake, in keeping
with the yellow and white color
scheme, was decorated with yel
low roses and rose buds and

Regular Meet

Past Week
Seven committee chairmen
made reports at the September
business meeting of the Pilot
Club of Blakely held Tuesday
at the community room of the
Bank of Early, with Mrs. Guy
King presiding.
Mrs. As Ds Wilkerson, Chap
lain, read the poem, ‘‘Bridge
Builders’' as the inspirational.
Mrs. Mavis Cosby, Patriotic Em=-
blem Chairman, led the pledge
to the flag and in the singing of
“God Bless America’’s
Fall Council on October 19-20
at Rock Eagle, was one of the
items emphasized in the Gover
nor's bulletino Other commu=-
nications included a letter from
Charlotte Love, who left Sunday,
September 15, for Georgia South
western, Americus, toenter nur=-
ses training. Charlotte thanked
the members of the club for the
shower given her as she enters
college. Charlotte is the 1968
recipient of the Nurses Scholar
ship given by the Pilot Club of
Blakely.
Mrs. A, D, Wilkerson, Com=
munity Service Chairman, asked
Miss Ellen Smith to report on
the Senior Citizens projects.
Miss Smith announced her sub
committee will direct a booth at
the Early County Fair and Pea

topped with the traditional bride
and groom. After the cutting of
the first slice, the cake was cut
and served by Mrs. Verna Sam
mons. Mrs. Vincent Willis pour=
ed punch from the other end of
the table. Lighted bridal tapers
in a silver candelabra formed
the focal points Nuts and mints
were served in silver compotes.
Later in the evening the couple
left for a wedding trip to Florida.
Upon their return, they will be
at home at 110 Oak Street in
Blakely.
Mrs. Loper, wife of the pastor,
directed the wedding.
REHEARSAL
On Tuesday night, September
17, the groom'’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Middleton entertained
member s of the wedding party,
at their home in Blakely.
The table was centered withan
arrangement of yellow gladioli,
chrysanthemums and greenery
and overlaid with a yellow linen
cloth. Sandwiches, chips anddip,
nuts, mints and punch were ser
ved to the sixteen attending, ‘Miss
Elaine Middleton, sister-of:the
groom, assisted in serving.
The bride wore a light blue
dress of cotton lawn. She wore
white accessories.

exhibited the Safety picture of
the Collins twins promoted by
the Pilot Club and reported on
the program presented by this
committee at the August supper
meeting,
Mrs. Thomas Hartley, Publi=
city Chairman, stated the news
papers and radio had given good
coverage to the cfficial visit of
Lts Gove Mrs. Louise Cobb of
Atlanta and to the club’s spon
soring a shower and presenting
a scholarship to Charlotte Love.
Mrs. R, W, Mueller, Ecducation
and International Relations
Chairman, reported this com
mittee had sponsored the shower
for the scholarship recipient.
Mrs. Mavis Cosby, Patriotic
Emblem Chairman announced
this committee had mailed a box
to a soldier in Vietnam in August.
She stressed the importance of
all voting for the candidate of
their choice, but vote.

James D, (Dan) Hanson, for
merly of Somerset, Ky., took
over his duties as Minister of
Music and Youth at the First
Baptist Church here Sunday, Sept.
15. Mr. and Mrs. Hanson reside
at 126 N, Woodlawn Dr. in Blak
ely Heightse He has a B,As de~
gree in Music and a Masters
degree in Music Education from
Eastern Kentucky University; and
has served as Minister of Music
at the First Baptist Church and
Parkway Baptist in Lexington,
Ky., and has taught public school
music. The Hansons have one
child, a daughter, Dana.

Miss Ellen Smith, Chairman

ported sending cards to the sick
and shut-ins and a gift to a
member not able to attend the
meetings, Mrs. C, W, Lay, who
had a fall recently.
Mrs. Mavis Cosby, Hospitality
Chairman, reported on the supper
prior to the meeting and recep
tion after the business meeting
and council, when the Lt, Gover=-
nor made her official visit.
The, next meeting will be held
at the log cabin of the Smith’s
in the Colomokee Community,
with Miss Ellen Smith as hos
tess to a quail supper. The
Publicity and Public Relations
Committee with Mrs., Thomas
Hartley, Chairman, will have
charge of the programs.
