Hodges, an eleventh grader,
son of Mr. and Mrs- Roscoe
Hodges.
The Bellyr is played by Linda
Kimbrell, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl M. Jones, a tenth
grader.

Sandra Lee
The Washington High School
student body elected its officers
for the student council on Fri
day, September 26, 1969,
Sandra Lee was elected presi
dent. Sandra, a Senior, is a
member of 12-B where she ser
ves as president. She is vice
president of the WHS chorus,
and is a member of the Girl
Scouts, Yearbook staff, and the
WHS Band. Sandra is the dau
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby
Lee, Sr.
Charles Slaton was elected
vice-president. Charles, a sen
ior, is a member of 12-C. He is
a member of the WHS chorus and
band and is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Slaton.
Other officers include: Phyl
lis Lewis, secretary—Phyllis is
tlie daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
L M Lewis, Sr. and is a mem
ber of WHS band, chorus and
yearbook staff. She is a mem
ber of the Senior Class, 12-B.
Thelma Jackson, assistant se
cretary, is a member of the
Senior class, Social Science
Club, Business and Art Club.
Thelma is the daughter of Mrs.
Pearl Hicks; Amelia Hutchins,
treasurer, is the daughter of

Winners in the FHA Initiation were Eugenia Fincher, Holland,
3rd place; Terry Kimler, a Viking, 2nd place; Jeanie Holman,
Scotland, Ist place. The theme for the initiation was "Our
(World, A Growing Heritage-’’ Dana Jane Brown was chairman
of initiation and presented the assembly program.

The theme of this year’s ini
tiation was, "Our World, A Grow
ing Heritage." The girls were

The Executive Board of the
Future Teachers of America met
Tuesday, Sept. 30, with Jackie
Gentry, president, presiding.
The group voted on projects and
activities the chapter will spon
sor during the school year. Some
of the projects are: presents for
the Empty Stocking Fund, Ameri
can Education Week bulletin
board, Teaching Career Month,
tape a radio program, University
Traveling Art Exhibit, Student
Observation Program, Teacher-
Aid, Tutorial program, spotlight
Teen Age nutrition program, and
cooperate with GEA in drug abuse
program.
Small group workshops were
held for committees to plantheir
work for the year.

With these newly elected lead
ers, full of inspiration and am
bition, Washington High can look
for more progress as we move
forward together.

The Agricultural Student of
the Month Award is an award
sponsored by the Early Count)’
High Chapter of the Future Far
mers of America. The award
is based on: Neatness and ac
curacy of notebook and record
book, scholarship, personality,
as well as participation in FFA
activities. On Friday, Oct. 3,
1969, Jimmy Balkcom was pre
sented this award in Chapel.
Jimmy is a sophomore, mem
ber of the Senior Beta Club and
the B football team at Early
County High School. He is also
a member of the First Baptist
Church of Blakely where he is
active in the Choir, Training
Union and Sunday School.
Jimmy is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. E. Balkcom of Blakely.

— Fall Ceremonial of the
Hasan Shrine Temple will be
held in Albany on Friday and
Saturday, Oct. 10-11. The parade
will be held Saturday beginning
at 11:30 a.m. The Blakely Drum
and Bugle Corps will participate.
Blakely will have six or seven
candidates (novices). The Can
didates Ball will be held Satur
day night, 9-12, at Hasan Shrine
Mosque.
