The Baker Chapter OES holds
regular meeting and honors dis
trict deputies, Mrs. Martha Faye
Ward of Shellman and Mr. Char
les Winters of Fort Gaines. At
the close of the meeting the
chapter honored the district
grand deputies with a beautiful
program. O, H. King of Blakely,
the guest speaker, spoke on
friendship and how beautifully
it was exemplified by the mem
bers of the Eastern Star in this
district.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar DeWolfe
of Watertown, N. Y. spent the
week with Mr. and Mrs. ¢, L
Armstrong.
Mrs. S, H. McGowan underwent
surgery at Southeastern General
Hospital, Dothan, Ala. Tuesday,
friends will regret to learn. She
is in Room 215, and was ad
mitted to the hospital Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. O, H. King and
Mrs. Crozier Batchelor of Blak~
ely attended the grand secretar
ies school of instruction and
the official visit of the Worthy
Grand Matron in Macon. There
were several others from dis
trict 36 attending also.
Mrs. Billy Tabb will be spend
ing Nov. 5-13 in Hawail
where she will meet her hus
band, Captain Billy Tabb. Capt.
Tabb has been granted a Rest
and Recreation leave from his
duties as Operations Officer for
the 334th Aviation Co., Bien Hoa
Air Base, South Vietnam. Mrs.
Tabb is the former Miss Cherry
Bethea and the daughter of Mrs.
Jo L. Bethea of Colomokee com=-
munity.
Mrs. G, W, Gay had as her
guests over the week end her
daughters, Mrs. Emma Scorsone,
Marietta; Mrs. Callie Gilbert,
Hapeville; Mrs. Bera Collins and
children, Telese, Mike and Nor=
man of Columbia, SC, and a

Early County Commissioners
held a short but busy session
Tuesday. Only routine business
was transacted, such as paying
of regular monthly bills. A re
solution was passed ap,roving
the closing of all county offices
on Thursday and Friday, Nov.
27 and 28 for the Thanksgiving
holidays. This will give employ~
ees a three-day holiday as the
courthouse is closed on Satur
days regularly. Members of the
board present were A, D, Wil
kerson, chairman; Lemuel Tiner,
Jo O. Evans and Donald Mc-
Arthur. Commissioner Jack
Sammons is recuperating from
recent surgery, and was report
ed as improving rapidly.

The past Matrons and Patrons
of District 36 Order of the East
ern Star held a dinner meeting
in Albany on October 30 at the
Gordon Hotel. Mrs: Os M
King, of Blakely, presided and
welcomed the sixty-six members
present.
A timely devotional was given
by Mrs. G, E, Cooper, after which
- Mr. E. H, Heidt gave the invo
cation. A delicious meal was
~ served in the civic room which
~ was beautifully decorated by Mrs.
- Eschol Holt and Mrs. Kenneth
. Prescott.
The club adopted a set of by=
laws and will be known as Dis
. trict 36 Past Matrons and Pa
~ trons Club. Meetings will be
held regularly four times each
~ year on the fifth Thursday in
. each quarter.

- CANADIAN CANOE CRUISE
The Chehaw Boy Scout.Coun
~ cil plans to have a Canadian
Canoe Cruise Expedition in the
summer of 1970. Dr. Frank
Wilson, 111, of Leslie; Ben Tur
ner' of Cordele, and Joe Aber
nathy of Albany will lead the
group.
The thirty Scouts and three
leaders will leave Albany June
27 by chartered bus, spend one
day sightseeing Chicago and
enter the Boy Scout Canoe base
on the northern edge of Minne
sota July 1. Here they will draw
canoes and camping supplies and
guides and will depart the fol
lowing morning for nine full days
in the Canadian wilderness.
Using a large scale map they
will plan their own route through
the lake country. Each leader
and ten Scouts with their guide
will set their own course, al
lowing time for camping, swim
ming and fishing.
Already eight Scouts have
made reservation to go: Robin
Newcomb, David Lindsey and
John Knight of Albany; Danny
Adams, David Adams, David
Stone, Bob Brown and Allen
Brown of Ft. Gaines.
Information on the Canadian
Wilderness Canoce Expedition
may be obtained from the Boy
Scout Council office in Albany
or from any member of the
council's executive staff.

Fire Girls
meet Tuesday
The Wee Hah Camp Fire girls
met Tuesday, October 28. The
new officers are as follows:

Musical Program
to be presented
at Woman's Club
A musicai program will be pre
sented by music students from
Andrew College at the November
meeting of the Blakely Woman's
Club, as part of the observance
of American Education Week by
the club, Mrs. J. M. Kitchens,
president, announced. Mrs. J.H.
Crowdis, Jr., is in charge of
the program which will feature
three foreign exchange students.
The meeting will be a luncheon
meeting at 12 noon, Friday, Nov
ember 14, at the clubhouse. Hos
tesses will be Mrs. E, W, Yar
nell, Mrs. Frank Tinney, Mrs.
L. E, Wallis and Mrs. Grady

Community
Club meets
The Cedar Springs Community
Club held its regular monthly
meeting at the courthouse in
Cedar Springs.
A covered dish supper was
served to the 32 members pre
sent. After the supper hour,
Mr. and Mrs. Hoyle White and
sons, Chris and Victor, brought
inspirational messages in song.
Mrs. W. B. Martin showed
slides of her tour in Russia and
narriated the scenes. County
Agent Judson Cooper assisted
Mrs. Martin in showing the pic
tures.

HE Club elects
officers Tuesday
The Cedar Springs Home Eco
nomics Club met Tuesday, Octo
ber 28, at the courthouse. The
meeting was called to order by
the president, Mrs. Waylon Lacy.
A pledge to the flag was said,
after which Mrs. Lacy gave the
devotional, ""Remember the
Lord’’. Mrs. G, E. Megahee
led in prayer.
The minutes of the last meet
ing were read and approved;
roll called with nine members
present.
The club members voted to
sponsor the Wee Hah Tanki Camp
Fire Girls in Blakely. Greeting
cards were distributed to the
club members to sell as a money
making project.
Officers were elected for 1970
President, Mrs. Waylon Lacy;
First Vice President, Mrs. Clara
Magahee; Second Vice President,
Mrs. Earl Pack; Third Vice
President, Mrs. Edmond Cribb;
Secretary and Treasurer, Mrs.

demonstration on making lovely
Christmas decorations and gifts.
Each member was given a pat
tern on how to make to Santa
gift.
Mrs. Cribb won the surprise
package. A social hour followed,
delicious refreshments were
served by the hostesses, Mrs.
Lacy and Mrs. Powell.
The hostesses for the Novem
ber meeting will be Mrs. David
Real and Mrs. Cribb. Mrs.
Pack will be program chairman.
Mrs. Douglas Hill will give the
devotional.
Clifton Brown
awarded Arm
Commendutio:
Clifton L. Brown has receiv
ed the Army Commendation
Medal and Citation for which he
was nominated upon completion
of his military obligation on Au
gust 31, 1969.
At the ceremony in which Lt
Brown received the citation, he
also was given recognition by the
Infantry School declaring him
an ‘‘honorary doughboy’’ since
he was actually an armored di
vision officer, :
Mr. Brown is the son-in-law
of Mr. and Mrs. John Allen
Hall of Camden, Alabama.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown (the for
mer Adrea Dennis of Blakely,
Ga.) and baby daughter, Jean,
now live in Opelika where Mr.
Brown is employed by West Point
Pepperell Mills, West Point, Ga.
The late Mr. and Mrs. W, L,
Rhodes are grandparents of the
couple.

A ‘“‘Thanksgiving Rally Day’’
and Homecoming will be held
the fourth Sunday in November,
November 23, at the Colomokee
Baptist Church, beginning with
the Sunday School hour, 10:;00
A.M,; Worship Hour, 11:00 A.M,
which includes a special pro
gram and music by members of
the church and preaching by the
pastor, Rev. Howard Gaston.
A covered dish luncheon will
be served following these ser=-
vices at the Kolomoki State Park,
Camp Hicita dining hall and all
resident, non-resident, former
members and interested persons
are cordially invited.

The 9th annual Homecoming
Day at the Southside Baptist
Church was a special event for
many former members coming
back to the church for the first
time since the spacious new an
nex has been completed, and the
old frame house on the corner
of South Church Street and South
Boulevard has been cleared a
way, leaving a large parking lot
on the corner.
Following the morning worship
service, a picnic lunch was ser
ved al fresco on the south side
of the sanctuary. The sunshine
and fair weather made for an
exceptional fine gathering onthis
November Sunday.
The Rev. A, H. Lanier, Jr.,
pastor, brought the message, Ri-~
chard Stokes, Minister of Music
was in charge of the music and
led the Congregational singing
in the afternoon, following the
lunch hour. Guests were wel
comed and recognized by Jimmy
James, Chairman of the Board

flowers during my stay in the
hospital.

hear Goodloe
Tuesday night
Blakely Touchdown Club mem
bers heard an inspirational talk
by Dynamite Goodloe, noted
Georgia golfer and former Geor
gia Tech recruiter and coaching
staff member. After giving a
run-down on the Tech and Geor
gia football teams, Mr. Goodlee
cautioned his listeners about
mediocrity, and ‘‘the average."’
Don't do a mediocre job or just
be a average, whether you're
working or playing, give it all
you've got'’', said Goodloe, ‘‘the
world is full of average guys.”’
The speaker was introduced
by Billy Peters, who arranged
Tuesday night's program. Presi
dent Jack Ricketson presided.
Coach Frank King gave a few
insights of this week’'s game
with Columbia, Alabama.
Bobcat varsity football mem
bers were special guests at the
meeting.
