son, Claude, visited Mr. and Mrs.
W. T. Bell in Lakeland, Fla.,
during the week end and were
joined by Al/c Carlie Bell from
McDill AFB, Tampa. They visit
ed the base at Tampa; attended
the boat races and saw the De
troit Tigers at their training
grounds at Lakeland.
Mr. and Mrs. James Bradley
Garner and son, James Brian of
Birmingham, Ala., visited Miss
Amber Houston and Emmett
Houston, Mrs. Garner’s aunt and
m. Netntly.
Cards of Thanks
It is with a deep and sincere
feeling of gratitude that I thank
my friends and relatives for the
many kindnesses shown me dur
ing stay in the hospital recently
and since my return home. The
visits, flowers, cards and gifts
were more than appreciated.

a time for gardening and Flower
Shows,
The Blakely Garden Club will
have fits Spring Flower Show,
April 23, Mrs. W, H, Fleming
is general chairman for this
event,
The Flower Show will not be
restricted to members only; all
residents of this vicinity are
invited to participate. The
men, as well as the ladies, are
urged to display the results of
their gardening skills.
This is a good time to shar
pen up those garden implements
and get ready for yard work.
After such a severe winter, all
will welcome the opportunity to
work out of doors.

Witness Mission
Members and friends of West
view United Methodist Church
are asked to keep in mind the
forthcoming Lay Witness Mis=
sion, February 20-22. Mark
your calendar and set the week=
end aside for Christ. Prior to
the actual meetings, a 24-hour
prayer virgil will be held and
beginning Friday, Feb. 20, at
7:30 p.m. and continuing through
the Sunday morning service,
meetings will be held during the
day and evening. In order to
have a successful weekend for
Christ all friends and members
are urged to participate in all
phases of the programs

to hold Revival

beginning Feb. 8
The Church of God announe
ces Revival Services beginning
Sunday night, February 8, and
continuing through the following
week, Rev. Franklin Butler of
Valdosta will be the visiting
Evangelist. Services will begin
each night at 7;30 o’'clock. Rev.
J. F. Griffis is the pastor.

George Hayes, Jr.
Miss Carolyn Ann Craven of
Atlanta, daughter of Mrs. George
Kindred Craven and the late Mr.
Craven, is engaged to George
Marion Hayes, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. George Marion Hayes,
Sr., of Adairsville, Ga.
The wedding will be March 28
at Grace United Methodist Church
in Atlanta.
Miss Craven is the grand
daughter of Mrs. Max Middleton
of Atlanta and the late Mr. Mid~
dleton of Blakely, Ga., and the
late Mr, and Mrs. Robert Kindred
Craven of Clarkton, N, C.
The bride~elect will receive a
B. A. degree in history from
Stetson University in June, where
she is a member of Delta Delta
Delta and Phi Alpha Theta.
Mr. Hayes' grandparents are
Mrs. J, M. Hogan of Rome, Ga.,
and the late Mr, Hogan and the
late Mr, and Mrs. V. W, Hayes
of Adairsville.
The bridegroom-elect receive
ed a B, A, degree in psychology
from Stetson University in 1968,
where he was a member of Pi
Kappa Phi, and is presently em=
ployed by the Bartow County
Board of Education.
Sunshine Club
holds Easter
Bonnet contest
The Sunshine Club opened the
Easter Season in Early County
with a Easter Bonnet contest
held at the Social Hall of the
Southside Baptist Church Mon=
day afternoon, at their regular
monthly meeting with Mrs. Lura
Murkerson, president, presiding.
Mrs. Maurice Lindsey of Cedar
Hill Homes, was first place wine
ner; Mrs. Abner Culbreth, 2nd
place and Mrs. J. W. Scar
borough, '3rd place. Honorable
mention went to Mrs. Charlie
Prince and Mrs. Beatrice Wil
liams. Mrs. Merle Haisten play=
ed the plano for the Fashion
Revue and Perry L. Bridges
sang, “Easter Parade’'.
The meeting opened with the
devotional given by the Rev.
Randy Haman, of Atlanta, South=
ern Baptist Convention Evange
list, who is in Blakely for a
series of meetings at the South~
side Church.
Following the contest, Mrs.
Haisten played for group sing
ing. The birthday cake went to
Mrs. Vera Tabb and Mrs. A, D\
Wilkerson, who have a birthday
this month. The cake was divid=-
ed between the two.
The Easter theme was carried
out in the table decorations as
well as the program. Candied
Easter eggs in small green nests
were placed along the tables
where the senior citizens were
seated.
Refreshments were served by
the Community Aides to the fifty=
four attending. Sandwiches, chips
and cookies were served with iced
punch.
The USS North Carolina, the

World War 11, steamed 307,000
miles during her wartime duty.

Neilson-Anglin Vows

She is a graduate of York
High School, Hampton, Virginia
and is attending Georgia Southe
western College, Americus, ma~
joring in Spanish. She is a
member of Kappa Delta soro=
rity and serves as secretary;
and is president of the Panhel=
lenic Council at GSC,
Mr. Anglin is a graduate of
Blakely High School and Georgla
Southwestern College. He was
a member of Sigma Delta Epis
lon fraternity and a past pre=-

tion join with hundreds of other
Early Countians in requesting
the County Commissioners to
take steps necessary to assist
the communities of the county
in establishing a county gar
bage collection system. They
feel this can be done by secur
ing strategic locations in each
part of the county where special
containers can be placed for
regular pick up; several people
have offered sites to be used
as land fills.

Garden Club

The Blakely Garden Club will
meet Thursday, March 5, at 3:30
o’'clock in the home of Mrs. Ro=
bert Stuckey with Mrs. Lloyd
George as co-hostess.
This will be the first meeting
of the new club year and a very
important business meeting. All
members are urged to attend.
