Conference
The officers of the Early
County High FFA attended a
Leadership Training Conference
on Monday, January 10th, in the
Moultrie High School. A general
session with the Moultrie FFA
presenting a program on Par
liamentary Procedure was an
enjoyable and learning ex
perience for everyone. After the
general session, the officers
divided into smaller groups. In
these small groups, the officers
were lead in a discussion of
their duties as an officer. The
editor of the Georgia Future
Farmer Magazine lead a dus
cussion on the task as a
reporter.
An executive committee me
eting of the Early County FFA
officers was held Thursday Jan
uary 6th, in the Vocational Ag.
Dept. The officers and committee
chairman discussed and made
plans for National FFA Week.
This year the FFA Week theme
tion meetings. This has proved
to ^e a very worthwhile pro
ject greatly appreciated by the
members of the PTO. The print
ing and selling of programs for
the home basketball games is
another project being carried
out by members. In the recent
January meeting, a new service
project was suggested and ap
proved. Members of the Beta
Club will now serve as teacher
aides whenever they are needed.
One of the most interesting
programs of the year thus far
was an informal discussion be
tween members and Mr. W. T.
Henry, headmaster, concerning
school curriculum and acitivites.
Other program discussions have
concerned leadership, scholar
ship, and higher education.
The members of the Beta Club
are pleased with their progress
during their first semester of
activity and will continue their
efforts to make the SGA Beta
Club an outstanding one. The
club is sponsored by MissHenri
nel Middleton, social studies
teacher, who formerly sponsored
Tri-Hi-Y, Beta and Junior Beta
Clubs in the southwest Georgia
area.

A Successful Home
Most people want to have a happy and successful home. The home is the
foundation of the church and the nation. Each is dependent on the other for strength.
When the home is strong and functions correctly then the church and the nation are
strong; but when the home is weak the church and the nation are weak. To have a happier
successful home is no accident. It requires work, planning and cooperation. Each person
within the family must be willing to assume his or her responsibilities. Thousands of homes
are broken each year in this nation and thousands more are unhappy and unsuccessful.
Every one of these home failures could be traced directly or indirectly to a violation of the
teachings of God as revealed in the Bible.
There are three key words involved in a happy home. The first is love. “Hus
bands, love your wives.” Ephesians 5:25. Titus 2:3-5 ... to teach the young women to
love their husbands.” Certainly children should love their parents as Christ love His father.
Love must be the foundation of the home if it is to succeed and be truly happy. The
second key word is kindness. It is possible to love someone and still be unkind to him or
her. Sometimes we get too busy, too preoccupied, too involved. We neglect those who are
closest to us. The “golden rule” applies in the home as well as any other place.
The third word is responsibility. One of the major reasons given for divorces
among young married couples is immaturity or unwillingness to assume responsibility. No
matter how happy your home is today it could be happier if it were a united Christian
home.

The Use And Care
Os Dishwashers
BY VICKI STILL
The daily task of doing dishes
by hand has been despised by
homemakers, and their husbands,
and especially their children ever
since dishes were invented. An
automatic dishwasher helps the
homemaker save her time, her
energy, her labor and her hands
from that awful fate. For these
reasons, an automatic dish
washer has become an essential
kitchen applicance.
A dishwasher does a far bet
ter job than the homemaker could
ever do. The performance of a
dishwasher depends on four fac
tors: The dishwasher, water
conditions, detergents used, and
the consumer who pushes the
buttons.
First, and most obviously the
dishwasher is responsible for
good performance. It must have
effective and efficient washing
and drying action. There are
several washing cycles that most
dishwashers offer:
1. A full or regular cycle
is the most common and is meant
for an average amount of soil.
2. A rinse and hold cycle
rinses off the bulk of the food
soil, drains and holds the dishes
in a moist atmosphere until an
entire load is ready for complete
washing and drying.
3. A soak/heavy soil or pots
and pans cycle loosens heavily
baked on soils from ovenware
and fry pans and generally in
cludes a complete wash cycle.
4. A sanicycle can provide
extra health protection for the
entire family by raising the tem
perature of the final rinse water.
5. A light soil or short cycle
is designed for ice cream dishes
and water glasses or polishing
up special occasion crystal and
china. This cycle also saves
on water, detergent and e
lectricity.
No homemaker will be happy
with dishwasher performance un
less it also safely and thouroughly
dries her dishes. Manufacturers
have basically three approaches
to drying dishes. The best is
the combination of the heating
element within the dishwasher
tank and a fan to move the air
over, under and around each dish.

stance. The substances held in
solution, unseen to the eye, have
an extensive impact on the wash
ing performance of your dish
washer. No other appliance is
more sensitive to water condi
tions than the household dish
washer.
Hard water can cause filming
and spotting on glassware and
silverware. A rinse conditioner
dispenser, to make water
“wetter” and prevent spotting is
an excellent feature. Water tem
peratures of between 140 degree
and 160 degrees F. are always
a must for top dishwasher clean
ing and drying action.
The detergents used will also
affect the performance of your
dishwasher. The consumer
should test several brands to de
cide which she feels gives best
results in her local water. In
all cases, only automatic dish
washer detergents can provide
effective cleaning results in the
dishwasher. These detergents
contain ingredients which help
soften the water and include the
essential non-sudsing condition.
The loading of the dishwasher
is vitally important to the per
formance picture. Improper
loading and overloading can
cause poor cleaning results. The
consumer should follow the load
ing recommendations given by
every manufacturer in use and
care manuals. Features available
to provide versatile loading in
clude the adjustable height of the
upper rack to accommodate large
items in both the botton and up
per racks; and upper rack split
down the middle for height ad
justment; rows of pins which
fold down and out of the way
so large pots and pans will fit,
and specially designed and shaped
pins for holding cups, glassware,
and crystal. Also, special bas
kets for silverware.
As dishwashers become es
sential appliances in the homes,
more education as to proper
use and care is necessary. This
is the reason manufacturers pre
pare use and care manuals. To
get the most satisfaction from
your dishwasher thououghly read
and follow the use and care
manuals that come with your
dishwasher.
