The newly organized Acteen
group of Colomokee Baptist Ch
urch had their weekly meeting
last Friday January 21st. The
devotion was given by Debbie
Sims. The prayer calendar was
presented by Dot Cook and her
Ensley Cowart
honored with
Birthday Party
Mr. Emsley Cowart was hon
ored with a birthday party Janu
ary 16, on his 69th birthday at
the club house in Cedar Springs.
It was enjoyed by twenty three.

Cowart and wife Pat. Those at
tending was Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Evans and son Joe, Rt. 4, Blakely.

urer of the Future Homemakers
of America, attended the Janu
ary State Executive Council
Meeting in Statesboro,Jan.2l,22.
I'he meetings were heia on me
campus of Georgia Southern Col
lege. The twenty six state officers
made plans for the annual State
Convention to be held at the Mar
riott Hotel in Atlanta, April 21,22.
Candidates for State Officers for
19.72-78 were selected, and
Cheryl was one of the four nomi
nees for State President.
Spring meetings to be held in
each of the four districts were
scheduled and planned. The Dis
trict I Meeting will be March 4
in Albany.
In addition to working with the
group, Cheryl participated in a
“Laugh-In” skit summarizing
Convention plans, and gave the

Miss Karen Harris of Blakely,
and Albany, whose marriage to
Fred Bailey of Albany and Edison
will be an event of February 26,
was honored at a miscellaneous
shower at the Cuba Clubhouse
Saturday evening, January 22 by
Mrs. Bryon Blackburn, Mrs. S.G.
Blackshear, Mrs. Tyner Cooper,
Mrs. Sam Lindsey, Mrs. Chester
Middleton, Mrs. Rufus Taylor,
Mrs. Charlie Thomas, Mrs. Will
Tiner, Mrs. Luther Waller and
Mrs. Donald Widener.
The guests were greeted at the
door by Mrs. Will Tiner, in the
receiving line were the honoree,
Mrs. Russell Bailey, mother of
the groom elect, and Mrs. B. R.
Bailey, grandmother of the
groom elect. Miss Emily George
presided at the registering table
which was covered with a yellow
cloth and a white-lace overlay.
On the table was a nosegay of
orange blossoms with yellow and
white ribbon streamers and a
bride centerpiece.
The refreshment table was
covered with a yellow cloth over
laid with white lace. The punch
bowl, cups and dishes were of
white milk bone china. Mrs.
Chester Middleton presided at
the punch bowl with MrS. Byron
Blackshear, Mrs.' S. G. Black
shear, Mrs. Tyner Cooper and
Mrs. Charlie Thomas assisting
in serving the cake, mints, and
nuts.
During the evening the honoree
opened gifts assisted by Mrs.
Donald Widener, the gifts were
placed on a display table by
Mrs. Sam Lindsey. White linen
cloths covered the display tables.
An arrangement of yellow chry
santhemums, an arrangement of
white daisies with yellow centers
and a variegated begonia decor
ated the three tables.
Miss Harris wore a brown knit
sleeveless dress with a roll col
lar, scallops, and button at the
waist. A gold pearl pin accented
the collar of the dress.
Treasurer’s report.
The State officers enjoyed
a tour of the campus and were
entertained at the Home Manage
ment House by members of the
College Home Economics Club.
Cheryl was accompanied to
the meeting by her FHA advisor,
Mrs. Charlie Houston.

Jaycettes Hold
Region 12 Meeting
The Winter Region 12 Jaycettes
Local President’s and Chairmen
met Saturday, January 22, 1972
at 11:00 a.m. at the Gordon Ho
tel in Albany. The business ses
sion was called to order by
Mrs. Norman Chadwell of Blak
ely, Region 12 Director. A very
inspiring devotional was given
by Mrs. Lamar Eynn of Albany,
Region 12 Chaplain. Mrs. Jerry
MacFarland ofthe Terrell County
Jaycettes was introduced as the
new Region 12 Secretary and
Treasurer.
Among the business brought
forth was the changes to the
Georgia Jaycettes Constitution
and By-Laws to be voted on in
Macon on February 20, 1972.
The Local President’s meet
ing was adjourned with the next
meeting being set for March 4,
1972 in Albany.
The Speak-Up Competition be
gan at 12:00 noon in the Haley
Room of the Gordon Hotel in
Albany. Mrs. Dale Braswell and
Mrs. Nancy O’Neal participated
in the Speak-Up competition by
giving a three to five minute
prepared speech on a line of
the Georgia Jaycee Creed. Jud
ges for the competition were:
Mrs. J. M. Floyd, Mr. Willis
Yarbrough, and Mr. Led Kervin.
Mrs. Braswell of Albany was the
winner, Mrs. Braswell spoke on
the last stand of the Georgia
Jaycee Creed - “And That Ser
vice To Humanity Is The Best
Work of Life.”
Following the Region 12 Speak-
Up Competition the General Busi
ness Session was called to order.
Mrs. Bill Swift, President of the
Albany Jaycettes extended the
welcome. Reports were given by
the following Region 12 Chair
men - Mrs. Bill Swift of Albany,
Region 12 Visitation Chairman
reported that since the visitation
program had been adopted there
had been a total of six visitations
throughout the Region with four
teen (14) Jaycettes participating.
Mrs. Spark Conner of Ameri
cus, Region 12 Mental Health
Chairman, reported that the
weekend of March 11, 1972 has
been set aside as Mental Health
Project which will benefit South
Georgia.
Mrs. R. W. Coody of Albany,
Region 12 Awards Chairman an
nounced a workshop would be
held on February 12, 1972 in
Blakely.
Mrs. Dale Braswell "Os Albany,
Region 12 Speak-up Chairman
announced that a Speak-Up Work
shop would be held in Albany on
March 4, 1972 for the purpose
of preparing for Spring Competi
tion and State Competition.
After the Region Chairmen re
ports, the following Presidents
gave a report on acitivities being
carried on in their club: Mrs.
Frank Joiner, President of the
Americus Jaycettes, Mrs. Felix
Davis, 111, President of theßlak-
ely Jaycettes, Mrs. Bill Swift,
President of the Albany Jay
cettes, and Mrs. Martha Nichol
son of the Terrell County Jay
cettes reported in the absence
of Mrs. William Cooper, Presi
dent, In the absence of Mrs.
Ernest Lee President of the
Thomasville Jaycettes there was
no report for the Thomasville
club.
The Americus Jaycettes won
the girl mileage, they had ten
Jaycettes in attendance.
The following announcements
were made: Jaycee-JaycetteSta
te Winter Board Meeting to be
held in Macon on February 18-20,
1972. Jaycee-Jaycette Region 12
Spring Meeting to be held in
Blakely on April 12, 1972. Sta
te Convention, May 18-21, 1972-
Jekyll Island. Jaycee National
Convention, June 15-23, 1972 in
Atlanta, Georgia.
Three (3) Jaycettes were in
attendance at Region Meeting in
Albany, they were: Mrs. Felix
Davis, 111, President of the Blak
ely Jaycettes, Mrs. Eddie Mar
tin, local director and awards
chairman, and Mrs. Norman
Chadwell, Region 12 Director
and Parliamentarian for the
Blakely Jaycettes.
Pilot Club
meets Tues.
The Pilot Club of Blakely met
at the Early County office build
ing of the Department of Family
and Childrens Services Tuesday
night for the regular dinner and
program meeting with the
Public Relations Committee
serving as hostess and in charge
of the program. Miss Marshline
Giles, president, welcomed the
guests and members. Mrs. A. D.
Jones, Chaplain read a poem as
the inspirational and Mrs. A. D.
Wilkerson led in singing the
Pilot Blessing.
Don Curran, a native of Milli
nockett, Maine, showed color
slides made on a recent trip
back to his home town, showing
places of interest in Millinockett
and in surrounding towns. Other
scene were of the mountains
in Maine, fall foliage, lake and
bay scenes, and boats familiar
in favorite recreation sites. Mr.
and Mrs. Curran included a trip
to Niagara Falls in their slides.
Mr. Curran is employed at
Great Northern Plywood Cor
poration, Cedar Springs.
He is a graduate of the Univ
ersity of Maine with a degree
in engineering. Photography is
one of his hobbies. He has re
sided in Blakely seven years.
Mr. and Mrs. Curran were
presented by Mrs. A. D. Jones,
program chairman. They were
presented a gift by the club
at the close of the program.

Holds Laymen’s
Day, Jon. 29
“Anyway you measure it, Sun
day will be a great day”, it was
announced before hand about
Laymen’s Day at the First Bap
tist Church, and it was a great
day, beginning with a Breakfast
at the church for all men at
7:30 a.m.
E. C. Mann with Hercules
Corporation, Hattisburg, Missi
ssippi was the guest speaker at
the Breakfast. After breakfast
the “Singing Churchmen” re
hearsed for the Morning Wor
ship Service.
Mr. Mann, who is a Lay
Speaker and recently spoke to an
assembl y of Gideons at Kolo
moki State Park, Blakely, spoke
on the theme for the day, “A
rise, O Men of God”. Frank
Christian of Valdosta, hotel
manager on 1-75, and brother
in-law of Mr. Mann, was guest
soloist. They were introduced by
the Rev. Glen Sheppard, pastor.
Glenn Sirmons was song
leader; Bill Warrick, organist;
Mrs. Larry Scott, pianist; others
taking part on the Layman’s Day
Program were Jim Perkins, Se
vola Jones and Owen Fussell.
The Singing Churchmen Choir
sang “Rise Up, O Men of God”
following the prelude.
At a Laymen Led Testimony
Service Sunday, evening, Jim
Perkins, President of the Baptist
Brotherhood, presided. Personal
testimonies were given by Buddy
Bridges, popular Blakely teen
ager; Reuben Jackson, a senior
Citizen who recently joined the
First Baptist Church; Warren
Whitaker, a young father; and
