Blue & Gold
Scrimmage
The Early County Bobcats will close
three weeks of spring drills Monday
night with a Blue-Gold Intra-squad
scrimmage.
Coach Ric Hall, entering his first
year at the head of the Bobcat helm,
told the News this week he was pleas
ed with the progress made so far in
the drills.
“We have a little more raw talent on
the squad than I expected to find,”
stated Hall. “However, we will be
young and they will be adjusting to
my scheme of football.”
Monday night’s scrimage game will
begin at 7:30 p.m. During the first
quarter, mostly the young B-team
players will be playing. During the se
cond quarter the first offense will go
against the second defense and then
the first defense will go against the se
cond offense.
During the second half, it will be a
true Blue-Gold scrimmage.
Coach Hall and the coaching staff
invite everyone to come out and enjoy
the action.
Charles Hatcher
Announces Plan
For Re-election
Second District Congressman
Charles Hatcher will announce his in
tentions to seek a second term in of
fice at an old fashioned barbeque near
his boyhood home in Elmodel. Hat
cher said he will kick off his campaign
for re-election May 22, at noon, in the
tiny farm community of Elmodel in
rural Baker County. “I started my
first congressional campaign here,”
said Hatcher, “and I promised the
people that I would begin again right
here on the same spot.”
Hatcher grew up in Elmodel and at
tended public schools in the county.
His Mother was a school teacher, his
Father farmed and ran a rural
grocery. “The values I was taught
here,” said Hatcher, “I have taken
with me to Washington.” Hatcher
said, in Elmodel, he learned to put his
trust in God, help his neighbors, and
to “Do a good job when I was given a
chore.” Those values, according to
Hatcher, have helped him in his
public service career. In fact Hatcher
credits those values with his meteoric
rise in the Georgia House of
Representatives and the strong show
of leadership he has displayed in the
U.S. Congress. Hundreds of people
are expected to turn out for the barbe
que and country music. Hatcher will
make a short address. Joining Hat
cher for the kick off will be his wife
Ellen and the couples’ three children.
