Mr. and Mrs. William Kincy Wiley
are happy to announce the fourth
coming marriage of his daughter,
Bettye Joyce of Newark, New Jersey
to Mr. Joseph J. Hooks of Newark,
New Jersey, son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. George Henry Hooks of Dunedin,
Florida.
The bride-elect is the daughter of
the late Mrs. Alberta Collins Wiley
and granddaughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William M. Wiley. A 1966
graduate of Washington High School,
Blakely, she received a degree in
Business Education from Fairleigh
Dickinson University, Teaneck, New
Jersey. Ms. Wiley is presently
employed as a Word Processing In-
Things were really hopping at the
Early County Library Tuesday, July
20 as a large crowd attended the First
Annual Frog Jumping Contest. Over
50 frogs were entered in the event,
with only a few escaping before race
time. Winners of the day were: First
place, Johnny and Paula Hurst; Se
cond place, Maria Mulkey; and win
ner of the T-Shirt drawing, Molly
Blount. Officials for the event were
Austin Storey, Trey Timmons, Jody
Timmons and Doug Kidd, who all did
an excellent job watching the Finish
Line and restoring order when
necessary. Bookmarks and lollipops
were given to all participants, so
everyone went home a winner.
Chris Kelly, naturalist at
Kolomokee State Park, will be at the
library for Story Hour Tuesday,

native of Dunedin, Florida, attended
Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona
Beach, Florida. Mr. Hooks is a
longshoreman employed by Atlantic
Container Lines, Port Elizabeth, New
Jersey.
The wedding will be an occasion of
August 14, 1982 at Oak Grove AME
Church, Blakely. The ceremony will
be at 2 p.m.
No invitations will be issued. All
relatives and friends of the Wiley
Family are invited to attend the wed
ding.
Library News
August 3, 3-4 P.M. An hour of Indian
fun will be had by all who attend.
Tuesday, August 10 will be the last
Story Hour of the summer. Movies
will be shown to those attending.
The Vacation Reading Club ends
Tuesday, August 10. Children must
turn in their folders to the library by
that date to be eligible for their cer
tificate. The party honoring those
receiving certificates will be held
Wednesday, August 18 at 3 p.m.
Please turn in your folder on time so
that you won’t miss out on the fun.
Remember you must read at least 10
books to receive a certificate.
The Early County Library, located
at 628 Columbia Road, is open 9-5:30
p.m., Monday - Friday and closed on
Saturdays during the summer.

Miss Glynis Glass, 15 year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Glass of
Blakely, has been selected to repre
sent the Georgia Limousin Breeders
Association as it’s Queen for 1983.
The Beauty Queen Contest was held
on July 23rd in conjunction with the
Georgia Junior Limousin Field Day
held at the R.E. Youngblood Farm in
Ashburn, Georgia. Contestants were
judged on their poise, beauty, and
knowledge of the Limousin breed of
cattle.
In her capacity as Limousin Queen,
Miss Glass will attend various beef
cattle functions promoting and ex
plaining the fine qualities of the
Limousin breed. The highlight of her
reign will be a trip to Denver, Col
orado, early next year to participate
in the National Limousin Queen Con
test.
Glynis is a junior at Southwest
Georgia Academy where she is a
basketball cheerleader and a member
of the Y-Club and French Club. She is
an active member of the Early County
4-H Club with projects in Arts and
Crafts and Beef. She has shown steers

Opal and Frank Bridges
for four years receiving Grand Cham
pion honors on three occasions. Miss
Glass is a member of the First Baptist
Church of Blakely where she is a
member of the Youth Choir and Youth
Ensemble. She serves as a youth
leader both in her church and the 4-H
Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Cary Home of
Donalsonville announce the birth of a
daughter, Carie Brynn, bom July 23,
1982 in Southeast Alabama Medical
Center. She weighed 6 lbs. and 7H ozs.
and was 20 in. long.
Brynn joins her older sister, Court
ney Lee.
Maternal grandparents are Mrs.
Martin Muskesen and the late Mr.
Muskeson of Lucille.
Paternal grandparents are Mrs.
Wayne Home and the late Mr. Home
of Donalsonville.

Elizabeth Wynnis, to Michael Gary
Masarek, son of Mrs. Muriel A. Hook
and Mr. Sheppard L. Masarek of
Atlanta.
The bride-elect is a graduate of the
University of Georgia, receiving a
8.8.A. degree in finance. She is

Revival: at Damascus Baptist
Church begins next Sunday, August
Ist, because there will be a homecom
ing that day. Sunday School at 10:00.
Preaching Service at 11:00 and 7:00 on
Sunday night. The revival services
will be at 8:00 p.m. Monday through
Friday. We will have lunch at
Southwest Georgia Academy for the
homecoming dinner. Everyone is in
vited to come. We pray that all three
of the young men who went out of
Damascus Baptist Church to preach,
can be there, Rev. Harold Pullen,
Rev. Robert Pullen and Dr. William
D. Wood. Brother Harold Pullen will
preach the revival.
Lynn and Betty Pullen, Charles and
Vivian Bridges are down in Florida at
points of interest, visiting a few days
this week.

An October wedding is planned at
Cannon Chapel of Emory University
in Atlanta.
Mavis Campbell visited in Macon
this week. A very nice visit to the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hendricks
and family.
Mrs. Tom Daniels is home and do
ing good after having surgery last
week in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jones had a
very welcome visit from their
daughter Wanda and family, over the
weekend.
I’m trying again to start writing the
News, as so many people have asked
about it, and say they enjoy it. Thanks
to all who say so.
