A Meeting You Can Not Miss!
Mark your calendars now! There is
going to be one of the most important
meetings this community has ever
held on Thursday, September 30th, at
seven-thirty at the Early County
Courthouse, and you can not afford to
missit!
Call it a County-wide Town Hall
Drug Awareness meeting if you will,
because that is exactly what it is go
ing to be.

Town Hall Meeting
Come one, come all to the Townhall
Meeting of the Court Square Arts
Council next Thursday evening,
September 23. Located in the Early
County High School cafeteria on Col
umbia Road, the annual meeting will
begin at seven thirty to kickoff the
membership drive for the 1982-83
season being coordinated by Mrs.
W.F. Arnold and Mrs. Brad Wall.
The Early Arrivals, under the
musical direction of Mr. David Smith
will present series of popular vocal

This meeting is going to enlighten or
shock you with the hard facts about
our own community’s drug abuse pro
blems - who's involved, what law en
forcement is doing, what the courts
are doing, what happens when your
child gets caught, and what we all
need to do to help prevent drug abuse
problems.
There will be a panel who will
discuss every aspect of our drug pro-
National Constitution Week will be
observed September 17th through
23rd by the Peter Early Chapter,
DAR. This week is in celebration of
the 195th anniversary of the signing of
our Constitution. During Constitution
Week we should all take time to
reflect upon the blessings of our liber
ty as stated in the Preamble to the
Constitution, “We the people of the
United States, in order to form a more
perfect union, establish justice, insure
domestic tranquility, provide for the
common defense, promote the
general welfare and secure the bless
ings of liberty to ourselves and our
posterity, do ordain and establish this
Constitution of the United States of
America.”
Dr. John McGowan, pastor of the
First United Methodist Church of
Blakely, will be the speaker at the
numbers for entertainment.
An exciting program has been lined
up for the coming season at the
Mangham Auditorium in the school
complex. According to Council Presi
dent, Mrs. Norman Alexander. On
November 22 the Asolo State Theatre
Company of Florida will present
“Angel Street”, a mystery thriller at 8
p.m.
On February 2-3 the Green Grass

letting our community become more
and more infested with drug abuse
problems - be at this meeting to find
out how important it is that we not let
our community become a victim of
our nation’s permissive society.

September 16th meeting of the Peter
Early Chapter, DAR, according to
Mrs. Bill Stone, Constitution Week
Chairman. The chosen national topic
this year is entitled, “To Foster
Patriotism and Love of Our Blessings
of Liberty."
As Constitution Week Chairman,
Mrs. Stone has contacted various
schools and encourages each one to
make the students aware of the im
portance of the week. Radio spots
reminding each of us of the impor
tance of the Constitution will be heard
daily on WBBK. Also, posters have
been erected in prominent places to
insure public awareness. The Early
County Library will feature a display
on the Constitution during this week.
The Peter Early Chapter, DAR, will
meet at the Early County Library,
September 16, 1982 according to Mrs.

Youth Minister

Steve Williams
First Baptist Church extends for
mal welcome to B. Steven Williams
who has recently come to serve the
church as Minister of Music and
Youth. A reception will be held Sun
day, September 26 from two-thirty
P.M. - four-thirty P.M., in the
fellowship hall to honor Steve and his
wife, Joyce, as well as their children,
Vicki, Tammi and Jonathan.
Steve is a native of South Carolina
-Joyce of Florida. Vicki is a fifth
grader and Tammi a second grader,
both at Early County Elementary
School. Jonathan is a happy pre
schooler.
Steve comes to First Baptist Church
from Hillcrest Baptist in Enterprise,
AL. Before that he served various
churches in South Carolina, Louisiana
and Alabama. Prior to entering the
ministry he was employed in the State
of South Carolina in the public school
system as band and choral director.
Steve’s B.S. in music is from the
University of South Carolina while his
Masters in Church Music, with a
specialty in conducting, is from New
Orleans Baptist Theological

This picture of local people in line to
put in a job application is a sign of bad
times - we have too many people out of
work in our community.
But, the picture is also a sign of bet
ter times - there are a few additional
job openings becoming available.

Ribbon Cutting For Oliver's Shoes
The Blakely-Early County Chamber
of Commerce, along with Mr. Robert
B. Oliver, proudly announce the
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of
‘Oliver’s’, September 17 at 10 o’clock
a.m. Familiar with the retail area,
Mr. Oliver will carry namebrand
shoes such as Life-Stride, Connie,
Revelations, Polly Prestons and
Capezion, Naturalizer for the ladies.

with as many as 20 employees during
the upcoming Grand Opening and dur

Friday morning another new

Grand Opening on College Street at
Court Square in the building occupied
a number of years by Earnest T.V.
Oliver’s Shoes, which will be manag
ed by Mr. Bill Sanders, will employ 2
Weynberg, Freeman, Bally, and
Allen-Edmonds shoes. The children
will have a selection of Buster Brown
& Converse shoes and Dexter will be
available for the whole family.
