and the American’s Creed.
Mrs. Howard Davenport read the

Texas. The country’s population is 16
million," she said.
Mrs. R.D. Norton, American
History Month Chairman announced
lists (over six months on The New
York Times list). Avon's advertising
campaign will include a national
publicity tour by Kushner and print
ads in general interest publications
and religious magazines The book
is a selection of the Book-of-the-
Month Club.
For ten years. Rabbi Harold S.
Kushner and his wife, Suzette, lived
with the knowledge that their only
son was doomed by a little-known
disease Aaron suffered from “pro
geria." an extremely rare disease
which causes premature physical
aging. Aaron died in 1977, two days
after his fourteenth birthday.
Kushner's need to understand the
God that "let" his son die, his en
deavor to accept his son’s fate, and
finally, his ability to see God as he
never had before, are the basis for
this extraordinary book.
Many have sung praises for
Kushner's work, but Silvano Arieti
said it best, perhaps: “When sorrow
visits our hearts and makes us per
plexed about our views of life, the
world, and God. Harold Kushner’s
compassionate and deeply moving
book brings us renewed faith, com
fort. and inspiration, and most of all,
the promise that we are not alone in
our pain." •
The bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. William H. Culver, Malone,
Fla. His grandparents were the late
Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Smith, Malone,
Fla., and the late Mrs. Sula Moore,
Malone, Fla.

School, Malone, Fla. and is presently

Makes 2 loaves
5 to 5 1/2 cups unsifted flour
2 tablespoons sugar
11/2 teaspoons salt
2 packages Fleischmann’s® Active Dry Yeast
Pinch powdered saffron
1 cup very hot water (120 F. to 130 F.)
1/3 cup Planters® Peanut Oil
4 eggs (at room temperature)
1 teaspoon cold water
1/2 teaspoon poppy seed
In a large bowl thoroughly mix 1-1/4 cups flour, sugar,
salt and undissolved Fleischmann’s® Active Dry Yeast.
Mix saffron with hot water. Gradually add saffron water
and Planters® Peanut Oil to dry ingredients and beat 2
minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl
occasionally. Add 3 whole eggs, 1 egg white (reserve yolk
for later use), and 1/2 cup flour, or enough flour to make
a thick batter. Beat at high speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl
occasionally. Stir in enough additional flour to make a
soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured board; knead
until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Place in
greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover; let rise in
warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about
1 hour.
Punch dough down; turn out onto lightly floured board.
Divide dough in half. Divide one half into 2 pieces, one
about 1/3 weight of dough and the other about 2/3
weight of dough. Divide larger piece into 3 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a 12-inch long rope. Braid the ropes
together; pinch ends to seal. Divide smaller piece into 3
equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 10-inch long rope.
Braid the ropes together; place on top of large braid. Seal
braids together at ends. Place on greased baking sheet.
Repeat with remaining dough to form second loaf.
Beat together remaining egg yolk and 1 teaspoon cold
water; brush loaves with mixture. Sprinkle with poppy
seed. Let rise, uncovered, in warm place, free from draft,
until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
Bake at 400 F. for 20 to 25 minutes, or until done.
Remove from baking sheets and cool on wire racks.
