The Weekly Democrat. cbsday. march *l 1872. a »-. ■ ■■ s. BEN E. RUSSELL fc JONES, proprietor*. BM a. RUIILtN Encourage lanlgratien. The discouragement with which persons meet who desire to settle in this State, is getting to be a matter of serious thought, and of vital in terest. We want our State developed fully in every way. She possesses a most powerful landed resource, which ir managed properly would be ot vast pecuniary value to her peo ple. We cannot induce settlers to come among us if we hold our lands at enormous prices. We must first create an excitement abroad, by Belling cheap. We must offer in ducements by selling at reasonable prices. We have many thousands of acres of land, and lew inhabitants. The North has comparatively no Union, and wit), whom, on such « p>at Wo conf-** we can Kf no good rea son for striking bands with Kadtea:i*m on such tein>». We conlond for princi ples, not against men. Our war i* i» support of the t’-oiirtiintioo, not simp y against • corrupt'Ex«-cuiiv«. We seek the oTer»biow of ibe pstiy who b*ve changed, and who seek to stiff further revolutionize our constitutional, lb-puh- liran form of government. The country has less to fear from Oram ttian from the Republican paity, and if Giant is “remit to ten-! the Republican parly in piece*,” as charged by Greefoy, no far si least ho is out friend and ally, and has onr best wishes for bis success. Tbe evils which afflict and the dan gers which threaten the country had •heir souicc'and origin in Radical Republicanism. The principles of the 1 leLuncratic party'arc Hie principles of the Constitution, under which ibe countiv prospered for the best pari ol a century. The res oration of thofr- prim-iples in the administration of the government can alone resioie the cou>>- trv to unity, peace and prosperity It I he Radical discontent* are sincere in '.hen alarm, iu their dread of a central lzed despotism, let them rally to the t'on-titutiori wheie they will find the true Democracy of all sections of tin- land and many thousands of inhabi taiftfr. 'She has not room for them, and the tide of immigration still rolls into her ports, increasing more and more each year; the consequence is that it must turn its course West or South. Now the question presents itself: are we going to permit.the tide of immigration to flow from North to West, or induce it to flow from North to South ? We must be willing to make a sacrifice at first to get the ball In motion, and alter it is in full motion we will be astonished at our success. The lands at the North, to a considerable extent, are totally worn out, and those who own them are anxious to move West or South. They are laboring under the impression tha we do not desire theii presence. Let them know that it is a mistake; that we want their capital and their energy to assist in developing the wonderful natural resources of this State; and we promise to assist them with all our ability in this grand work. We feel confident that if t ie above pro gramme is carried out, in ten years our State will have increased her population fifty per cent, and her wealth in proportion. We want pure, honest, sensible, iudustrious people, who will locate permanently among us and assist in this great work of development; but we will not encourage those interlopers who cast the seed of discord over our land—that make their '‘jack” and return to the North to gloat over their ill-gotten gains. • I foun, certain victory awaiis them. Bui if they can only take the Democracy wiihout their principle*, without their devotion to the Constitution aud the rights of Sia es.if they prefer “the legit imate n-sults of the war," to recogui lion of (he Constitution, aud are will ing 10 peril the liberties of the rouniry bv another term of Grant Radicalism, why let them t*k« the responsibility and the consequence*. The Democracy have no more ai ritpkethan themselves. We of the South have buffered the lull p-ualty of out adherence 10 the true principles of the government—our c; sc can he made veiy little worse. In <he native of thing* the tyinnuv and oppression which we have So long end ur ed, must make itself felt throughout the Union, aud when it becomes uni* verbal there ia reason to hope that it will work its own cure. Gen. Grant is ante t-o he re-nominated by hi* min* ion*, and il Radicalism, ns practised by Grant and taught by Sumner, But ler, Kornev «nd Greeley, is stronger in die affection of the Nuithet n masses than Democratic principles, he will be re-clcc eil. Pei haps another four years of extreme Radical Rule will be a blessing in disgii.se. [From the Sivannah Morning News.] _ a. m * - •- _ Tile New York Tribuue of Wednes day has the billowing paragraph. If there is truth in ihe*'aiiiient, the Pies- tfom is very logic illy treading the path chalked out by events: “The announcement that the President has dcc'aied hi* iutenriun to force bi* iioniinati-.ui at Philadelphia, whether there ?h til appear a reasonable prospect of hi* election or not, is made iu our Wnshingto (^patches on the au thorny of a leading lYngreFriutin and waim supporter of the Present. We bould like, in •pirn of this warrant, to doubt it; cinoe it i* a •addenin* thing to find t* uuin ready to rend the Republican part3 iu piece*, not for any quu.-it n ot party principle or reform in party practice, but to scour* additional reward to bim-elf.” It may, stys the Richmond Whig, be suddt-niuii to Mr. Greclev, who is the farther of the R.-puhlicau paity, to see a man ready to rend the R pufoi- can party, bin (.foil.
