Love Triumphs Over Obstacles. —Yesterday afternoon Miss Narcis- sa, dau liter of Elias Thomas, a planter in Henry county, Ala., was married by Justice Shivers to Mr. Win. Cottingliani. The charming bride was-a pupil at LeVert Female College and aged sweet sixteen— handsome and accomplished. Young mart took passage on same train in mail car. Father and daughter werc in Columbus depot reception oom awaiting the departure of the Eufuufci train. Father stepped out. The lair maiden, through a window, joined-her lover. A fast, trotter u lipeled^hem to the city. License was ready and they, were married. Afterward parent and children were reconciled. Father . pursued his lonely way to Eufaula, while the happy pair went back tpTalbotton. Mr. Allen, during his five years stay in this community, has d >ne more tor the cause of edu cation than all of his predecessors combined, and for this reason we re gret to lose him, yet we are glad the place he is called to till will be ; better suited to him. j We refer the deader to his ad ver tisement in this issue headed—“bar- I gains! bargains!” Tnr. Free Binner. Business.—At a recent meeting held in tjiis city looking tiy the erection of a*• free bridge, n-committee was appointed >to confer with the citizens on the West side of the river and see how much they would subscribe to the •enterprise. He repressents the Equi table. The Colored People for Gree ley and Brown.—The New York World, speaking of tlig correspond ence from all quarters received at the Greeley headquarters, in that city, says: Out of the forty-odd letters which constituted the last batch, fill en of them were trom colored people, who signed themselves as presidents of Grant clubs. They spoke in bitter terms ot Grant's administration, and On\!lO(1 ? 1F~lTiv.Ii owi * Iow-n-tjrwwx-v.VP ed, to work In the interest oT Gree ley. A colored man,. and also .an office-holder, dates his letter from Mississippi. He says: “There arc five colored men to one white* man in this section. The speech of Stun ner had a stunning effect—the col ored leaders are for Greeley and Brown, but the rank and fire are yet for Grant. If affairs shape as I hope and trust tJieV will, Grant will'bc the worst lieu ten President ever nominated.” Iu Alemoriam. The Negro Vote of Georgia. The annexed remarks of the Al bany News, in our opinion, correctly represents the sentiments of a major ity of the colored voters throughout the State, and the idea that they are all for Grant is a great mistake: We venture the assertion ‘hat not one-third of the negro population ol this Senatorial district will go near the polls at the approaching elec- I>iod on the 28 clay of April, 1872. -Geo. w.
