The Democrat does not elaini to have “double” the circulation of any other journal published in Deca tur county, but its circulation is larger than that of any other journ al. ^ If any body meaning business doubts our statement, we are willing to compare lists with any other pub lisher. Eugene Fontaine.—This inimi table scoundrel and swindler who figured so conspicuously in these parts a year or two ago as the agent of a wholesale soap house in New York, and who was looked upon by our unsuspecting citizens as “such a nice young man!” was arrested in Lexington, Ky., not long ago for forgery, he having obtained several hundred dollars by forgiug drafts and was in a fair way tD make a $10,000 “haul" when apprehended, lie now lies in Lexington jail await ing the action of the law. The above we learn from a private letter and from accounts in the Lex ington papers. Birth Day Party.—On Thursday night last we attended the birth-day party ot Master Montford Whitelcy, at the residence of Major. It. II. Whitcley. It was one of most pleas ant affairs we ever saw. The sup per was elegant and bountiful, and how 7 could it be otherwise, when presided over by so accomplished a lady as Mrs. Whitelcy. Over seven- five children w 7 erc present, and they had a nice time. We suppose the little fellows wouldn't care if Master Whitelcy’s birthday were to come every day or so. a fine reputation in that brief time. Last season ho acted prudently by feeling the market and becoming acquainted with the wants of the people. That he has succeeded in this we are certain. He now begins -the present season with one of the best ami oest-assorted»stocks of Dry Goods, &c., our city has ever seen, and we t^ke pleasure ip letting the fact out to the public. Mr. Ro<*en- feld has a polite and gentlemanly corps of "salesmen. Don’t fail to call arjd see him when you come to Bain- bridge. W. C. SUPERS. He is in New - York at present, buying another one of those large and bril liant stocks of goods that have made hi in so well and favorably known'in this section. Besides from the in ducements- offered by him in the way of bargains, we add that Mr. Subers is a generous-hearted man with whom.it is *a pleasure for people to deal. The stock of .watches, jewel ry, clocks, silver-ware, musical in struments, etc., that Subers will have in the city soon is to be the finest ever seen™ these parts. EDWARD R. PEABODY. Capt. Peabody is an extensive dealer in Drugs, Medicines, etc., etc., and is perhaps the most .ex-- perienccd druggist in the city 7 . Capt. P. has been in the drug busi ness for a number of years, during which time he has drawn around' him a patronage that few cotempora- ncous establishments can boast* of. hi the employ of Capt. Peabody is Mr. Hartwell SiYearengcn, a skillful apothecary, whose urbane manners are appreciated by the public. ’Tis needless to add that this house has always begn a strong believer in printer’s ink.
