Ilis stock of goods is most complete,
„„t wanting in any article necessary to
the tr;wle of Southwestern Georgia. Mr.
■\Vcil has polite and attentive salesmen,
who fully understand the business of
giving satisfaction to customers. Mr.
Weil's store will be closed for to-day.
Eclectic Magazine.—The Eclectic
for October is full of good things, the
contents varying judiciously “from grave
to gay, from lively to severe.” There is
nothing in recent magazine literature
which surpasses, for droH humor and,
witty characterization, the brilliant
skotch of “Barney Gcohegan, the Irish
Member,” of which the'second install
ment is given in this number. It re
minds one of Lover in his best days,
though it would be difficult to find any
thing of Lover’s that will compare with
it in point of power and variety.
The Editorial Departments presents
the usual fresh literary reviews, scientif
ic and art items, and miscellany. _

POCKET DICTIONARY.
Webster’s Pocket Dictionary, in its
present shape, is a great improvement
over all previous editions and all simi
lar works. In the first place it is
* neatly printed, and bound in morocco,
with gilt edges. Then it contains 200
pictorial illustrations, which give a
much clearer idea of the meaning of
many words than could possibly be con
veyed by the usual definition. The lit
tle .volume, while being no larger than
an ordinary pocket-book, embraces in
its vocabulary a careful selection of over
18,000 of the most important words of
the language, with definitions sufficient
ly clear, though necessarily brief, to
meet the ordinary wants of any one re
quiring its use. Prefixed to the work
are tables of money, weight and meas
ure, abbreviations, words phrases from
foreign languages, rules for spelling, ex-
planatku^otc.. It is in fact a most
valuabH£wm' book, and is doubly worth
the dollar it costs. It is Very beautiful
ly and substantially bound, with tucks
and gilt edges. The_Publishers. Ivison.
Blakeman. Taylor & Co.. 188 and 140
Grand Street, New York, will forward
it by mail on receipt of One- D»Uar, or
it can be bought almost anywhere.
Building Materials.—-We call
. the attention of our readers to the ad-
vni-RcAmflut in MTnalior column of one of
the most extensive manufactories of
Doors. Sashes and Blinds in the South
ern States. As these articles are
daily demand by our best citizens, we
recommend all who contemplate improv
ing their homes or places of business to
send for circulars and price list of the
above articles, together with prices of
builder’s hardware, marble mantle-pieces
French and American window-glass,

the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers is
considerably impeded on account of the
accidents to the Steamers St. Clair and
Baudy Moore.
Returned.—Dr. A. T. Bowne, and
daughters, returned from their Northern
Summer tour on Sunday morning last.
The election which took place yester
day will be contested, owing to the un
mitigated frauds perpetrated. The
proof is so possitivc that the Democrats
will triumph.'
American Homes for September is
the best issue of that standard magazine,
and is full of amusing and interesting
reading and beautiful illustrations. It
employes only good writers. The Bos
ton Daily Globe well says that “Ameri
can Hnnics aims to occupy the wLoie
field of literature, mature and juvenile.
