the host negroes in Calhoun county. Tayler
will hang on the 25th of July next. The

were mitigating circumstances in his case.
The prospects for an abundant harvest is
glorious. Though small for this time of the
year, corn’and cotton promise well. Never
have we seen crops freer from grass nor bet
ter cultivated than they are. In this, as in
other counties, the farmers have sown a
large quantity of oats, and are now reaping^
an abundant harvest., This season has been
exceedingly propitious for this crop, and its
y.<ld splendid. We understand that the
farmers have planted a much greater acre
age in corn this, than last year. Should
they do this each year, prosperity would
soon dawn upon our uow.'almost impoverished
land.

By consolidation and construction a road
has been put into operation on the shortest

This line, the
St. Lours ^Southeastern Railway, ■
has, during the past year, earned an envia

time, sure connections, and the magnifi
cence of its passenger equipment Its trains
are made up of new and commodious day
cars, provided with tlie celebrated Miller
"coupler and platform, and the westinghouse
Stir-brake.
It is positively the only line running Pull

St. Lotus. No other line pretends to offer
such advantages, either in distance, time, or
equipment. Why, then, journey by circuit
