The Yellow Fever in Baianbriige. As will be seen from our special tele gram there is nut much improvement in the yellow fever at Huiubridge. 'Iliree new cases—all negroes—were re ported yesterday, and one death. There are twenty-odd cases in all. ton of them dangerous, it will be observed, also, that our former reports were not »o highly colored as seme supplied. W hat- ever may be said, wu have n > hone of an abatement of the disease until a clack frost shall spread its chilling man tle over the plague-smitten city, and whether that will be ushered in by the rain thht fell last night remains to be seen. The present c.mditi- u of the un fortunate little Oak City is indeed d - plorable—a terrible climax to a slus in | of growth and prosperity—and we can only extend our hearty sympathy, coupled with a prayer that the worst is already over, and that the stricken peo ple may be speedily restored to health —Savannah AVtcs. Never before has the shadow of death hung so darkly over our once bright and"prosperous_little city. Hardly can we realize it—never did we dream of such'^atal affliction For the past few weeks Death has been busily at work, cutting down without warning many of our'eitizens, who but njshort while ago bid'fair to live to old age. For some time there was considerable doubt and uncertainty as to what was the nature of the dissease; but as it pro gressed, it stamped itself upon the minds of physicians and people alike, as that most terrible and destructive of scourges. Yellow' Fever. Immediately, as a precautionary measure, most of the wo man and children of our city were sent^ away. Those who remained did so from choice, not wishing to be separated front members of their families who could, not leave. Since our last issue'we have to chroni cle'the deaths of a child of the lamented H. J. Swetrengen, Mrs. Win. Painter Mrs. Spear, wife of Mr. II. II Spear. Hon. B. F. Bruton, who died last Wednesday morning, and Mr. Frank Green, and Mrs. Geo. W. Pearce, who died lsst__night; and, also, a negro nam ed Wallace Donalson, who died in the early‘part of the week. We cannotnow write appropiate tri butes to the'lamented dead, not having sufficient jspace in our paper, were we in our present depressed state of mind competent to do them justice, but. it we are spared, we will place upon reeord the merit, the worth and the tranevn- dant virtues of each and all. There are at this writing manycases are in town, some of which are very dan gerous, perhaps hopeless. Col. James Wilson died at his place below this city, yesterday, it is supposed of th disease. So far as we can ascertain the follow ing is the current number of those who have died of the fever up to date begin ning first with—Mr. George Schwa- bacher, Mr. H. D. Darden. Sr., Mr. Met Bower, Mr. J. H. Merritt. Mr. Jesse F King, Mr. H. J. Swearengen and child; Mr. Simon Engel. Mr. W. T. Morn. Mrs. Wm. Paiuter, Mrs. H. H. t>pear. Wallace Donalson. Hon. B. F. Bruton. V’« r bottle Mrs. George W- Pearce, Mr. 1 rank Green—making in all fifteen deaths, and the end, we fear is not yet. Throughout the disease our people have acted well. Our physicians, (and we are proud of them all.) have gained for themselves not only advanced pro fessional reputation, but that of noble and self-sacrificing gentlemen as well. Mayor well of the city i r erything in his pow er that can be done for the stek. and to prevent the spread of the disease he is doing with all the might and mi'n that characterises a faithful official, and a Christian man. Marshal Collier, too. and the colored men under his ccutroi, are acting nobly. And Mr. J. R. G raves, operator of the Western Union Telegraph Com- rho cauie among us a stranger.
