James Atkins, confirmed some days

Revenue. Uov. cver, this state o. affairs
d;d not dampen his ardoi or aspirations
for office or promotion. In the year 1872
Atkins was a successful applicant for the
office of Collector of the Port of 8av;.r.-
cah, Georgia. It transpired soon after
this event that lie was a defaulter in the
sum of $31,000, including $14,00 taken by
Delano’s deputies. lie recently got a bill
through Congress relieving him of the
$14 ,000 by reciting in it “a bill to correct
an error in enrollment,” when in fact this
was not true, ns the hill had never passed
both Houses of the previous Congress as
alledged, This relief from the $14,000
defalcation leaves him still a defaulter in
the sum of $17,000, and yet lie finds no
difficulty in getting con firmed as Collector
of the Port at Savannah. But the expla
nation of this gives an insight into the
manner in which the recent candidates
for Presidential honors at ti.te Cincinnati
Convention were governed. .Early in
January of this year Atkins came to
Washington as a strong Bristow man, and
did not scruple to promise the friends of
that gentleman that the Georgia delega
tion should be carried solid for Bristow. 1
After he was renominated for the Collec
torship, and his conformation was not
m ‘de promptly, he wet it to Senator Mor
ten and promised that he would sec that
the Georgia delegation to Cincinnati went
•olid for him. Still impatient at the delay
in his confirmation, he went to Colliding,
to whom he promised the Georgia delega
tion. The Blaine men, however, defeat
ed him and at the Convention Atkins
voted i ’onkling, and is again Collector
at the I o. if Savannah. This is glowing
e id nee of the great reform inaugurated
by the Republican party.
T he political campaign of 1367,
which includes National, Stateand coun
ty elections, and which will undoubtedly be
the most active and hotly coptestedjof any
nee the memorable canvass of lPSf^s now
fairly opened. The National Democratic
Party will this year make a bold, vigorous,
and doubtless successful struggle for the
maintainance and supremacy of those prin-
cinles whio’u are vital to the prosperity of
the Repub'ic and essential to the well-being
of the people.

WHAT OF TEE CONTEST?
So far nothing has occurred to damp
en the Democratic hope of success in
this great Presidential controversy. The
Democratic position and line of battle
is all that could be asked for. Every
thing has been arranged with judgment
and discretion, and though the battle
has not begun, the whole Democratic
lino is fired with enthusiasm and confi
dent hopes ol success—deeply impress
ed with the magnitude of the issues in
volved—satisfied and proud of their
leaders, and undaunted by the hostile
array against them.
For the past fortnight the enemy
have been busily engaged in getting
their battery into position aud Morton
touches off the first gun to-night at In
dianapolis. They have but one plan of
assault—the outrage mill — the bloody
shirt—the danger of entrusting the
country to the Democracy, a largo por
tion of whom were lately in rebellion.
1 hey have nothing else to present- to
ti e people. They can defend nothing.
They are cercssarih the assailing par
ty on this single idea
Lot the Democracy lose no time m
attempt‘ng to slorr. this battery in front-,
but fiank them, with a scorching expo
sition of their tre'sjtt to honest and pa
triotic government, and its disastrous
results. Sac's te the St. Louis plat
form—stick to the lette rs of acceptance.
Fight the battle on that liue, and be
not turned aside on African issnes. The
Airican baa monopolized the politics of
the country for the past twenty year*,

people a littlo attention.—Macon Tele

Losses, Irapotency, also, Consumption, Epi
lepsy and Fits, induced by self-indulgence
or sexual extravagance, £c.
Price, in a sealed invelops. only six

The celebrated author, in this admirable
Essay, clearly demonstrates, from a thirty
years successful practice, that the alarming
consexuences of self-abuse may be radically
cured without the dangerous use of internal
medicine or the application of the knife ;
pointing out a mode of cure at once simple,
certain, and effectual, by means of which
every sufferer, no matter what his condition
may be, may cure himself cheaply, private
ly, and radically.
This lecture should be in the hands
of every youth and every man in the land.
