Advertisements.
Several advertisements from some
of th§rbest business houses in New
nab, appear upon the second page of
the Times to day, under the head of
new advertisements. It has become
a well established fact in this day of
intelligence,- when everybody reads
the papers, that nothing pays a busi
ness man so well, as a judicious sys
tern of adveitising through the pub
lie prints. It has also become equally
as well established- that those business
men, who make use of the newspapers
to place themselves before the public,
are generally the most energetic and
enterprising, and offer the best bar
gains t-o their customers. Upon the
above well known truths,- wc c.tj
therefore confidently recommend, the
following business houses 1 of Newnan,
whose advertisements appear in our
paper to day.
W ilkerson A McGauity. —These
gentlemen are engaged in the ware
house and grocery business. They
have a comodious warehouse, and
keep a-n extensive stock of groceries.
Our Carroll readers would do well to
give their claims due consideration.
Sanders A Orr. — Head the double
column advertisement of these gentle
men, and when you go to New nan
recollect that they are large dealers in
groceries and dry goods.
H. I). Cole A Beo.— The well earn
ed reputation of this firm, as manu
facturcrs of sash, doors, blinds, Ac.,
and as agents for all kinds of ma
chinery is too well known to need any
Commendation, at our hands. Those
of our citizens wanting anything in
their line would do well to give them
a call.
J. T. Holmes A Buo.This is a
new firm composed of “Carroll boys,”
and our Carroll friends will be sure
and recollect them when they go to
Newnan.
Jas. M. Glass. —This gentleman
deals in both dry goods and groceries-
Bead his advertisement.
Kinnakd A Arnall. —This is a
well known grocery firm, and is com
mended to our readers. ✓
B. H. Wrioiit.— A horse, a horse,
my kingdom for a horse! said the
immortal Henry, but should any of
our readers?, want one, when they
go to Newnan, they can be accomo
dated upon much easier terms than
the above, at the well known livery
and sale stable of B. 11. Wright.
£*-W Do not forget that Col. P. F.
Smith, the alternate elector for this
Congrt s>ional District, will speak at
Carrollton on October 9th which will
lie Wednesday of Court week. Let
everybody turn out and hear him.
The election passed off as
quietly as could be expected. Two or
three little skirmishes opened but
were promptly quelled by our efficient
Marshal and his assistants.
Notice to Debtors. —All persons
indebted to Blalock ifc New, are most
urgently requeste dto come forward
and settle. The firm has been dissol
ved, consequent upon the deatji of
Mr Blalock, and the goods divided,
and hence the necessity of closing up
the business. All tho'se to whom‘the
Hrm has heretofore generously ex
termed its credit, we hope, will
appreciate the situation, and will
come forward, now that the cotton
crop is pouring into market, and
ey becoming plentiful, and settle up
their old dues. These accounts must
be settled this Fall,- and we hope our
friends will come promptly forward.
You will still find W . C. New at the
old Stand, where old accounts can be
settled. tt.

Change of Firm. —The goods be
longing to the old firm of Blalock tfc
New have been equally divided and
one half of them removed to the old
stand of the firm, oh the 8. E. Corner
of the public square under the charge
of Mr. J. E. Blalock. He is offering
to close out the entire stock at cost,
for cash. The old friends of the firm
and public generally are respectively
invited to avail themselves of this op
portunity to purchase their winter sup
plies of goods at a small cost.

How Site Did It—l will tell you
a rather bare-faced story ot how t;
Dublin chambermaid is said to have
got twelve commercial travelers into
eleven bed-robins, and yet to have
given each-a separate room. Here we
Lave the eleven bedrooms :*
■LCIA 1 "T FT a f~6~ |7lß| adioTir [
Now, said she, “if two of you
gentlemen will go into No. 1 bed room,
and wait there a few minutes, I'll find
a spare room for one of you as soon
as Ive shown the others L) their
rooms \\ ell, now, having thus be
stowed two gentlemen in No. 1 she
puts the third in Xo. 2, the fourth in
No. 3, the fifth in No. 4, the sixth
in No. 5, the seventh in No. 6, the
eighth in No. 7, the ninth in No! 8,
the tenth in No. 9, and the eleventh
in No 10. She then came back to
Xo 1, ivhere, you will remember, she
left the twelfth gentleman along with
the first, and said : “ I have accomo
dated all the rest, and still have a
room to spare, so if one of you will
please step into Xo. 11, you will find
it empty.” Thus, the twelfth man
got his bed room-. . Os course, there is
a hole in the saucepan somewhere - ;
but I leave the reader to determine
exactly where the fallacy is, with a
just warning to think twice before
deciding as to which, if any, of the
travelers was the “ odd man out.”
Sabbath. School Address.
The Methodist Sabbath School was
addressed-last Sunday by Maj. Wm.
A. Turner, in a pleasing and impres
sive manner. W c trust the little peo
ple will find the truths he proclaimed
and the advice given- great moral
helpsr to them m lifes perilous jour
ney.
Quite opportunely Col. Harris, our
candidate for Congress reached the
Church. As he is a veteran friend
of Sabbath Schools, the pastor in
charge invited him to address the au
dience. This he did in a manner
that evinced the sincerity of his de
votion to this institution. He gave
much good advice to the children and
youth present and made a strong ap
peal to the adults m bdialf of Sabbath
Schools. We are proud of this man
who while actively engaged in the po
litical arena, allows no opportunity for
doing good to pass unimproved. He
pauses by the way to scatter religious
truth and stoops to whisper wise
counsels even in the ears of the little
\
oi.ei by tne way-side. Such a man is
worth cherishing and to such we may
safely confide the guardianship of our
liberties —Peoples Defender.
B£rThe greatest want of the pres
ent age is man and women healthy
and vigorous- in mind and body. The
continued headaches, weaknesses ner
vouses, and varying ailments which
afflict women are generally the result
of imperfect action of the stomach
and other vital organs. Dr. Walker’s
California Yiuagar Bitters, being com
posed entirely of vegitable substances
indigenous to California may be
taken with perfect safety by the most
delicate, and are a sure remedy, cor
recting all wrong action and giving
new vigor so the whole system.
