last \veek„otfr town was honored with
a a iait, ironi Col. S. \\ r . Harris and
Hon. W. H. Clark, two well known
citizens of Vv est Point, Ga., whom we
have the pleasure of numbering among
our particular friends. They visited
our town and county for the purpose
ot prospecting it, with a view' of lo
eating, find we are glad to know that
they were quite favorably impressed,
both with Carrollton and the surround
ing country Dike many other think
ing men, whom we have met up with,
in traveling around, the last month or
two, they agree with us, that a bright
and prosperous future lies before Car
roll county. We hope to have the
pleasure of welcoming these gentle
men to the “State of Carroll,” ere
many months elapse. We are satis
lied that they can find no better conn
try in the State of Georgia than here.
G. L. Jc R. A. Johnson offer a
free wagon yard and comfortable
rooms to their customers and friends
while in their town. Mr. John Alex
ander from Bowdon is with them, and
will be glad to have his friends call
and see him.
A short time since, being in
Newnan Georgia, we went into the
furniture depository of Thompson,
Cole & Cos., and though we expected
to see a large lot of furniture, w e
were perfectly surprised to see what
we did—the three floors of a very
large building, completely jammed,
w T illi everything kept in the furniture
line. If any of our readers want to
furnish their houses, that is the place
to go.
TG&" The absence of the Editor last
week at West Point, accounts for the
lack of editorial matter in last issue.
There were also several typograpical
blunders in the same issue, which is
attributable to the peculiar pleasure
these “country printers” take, in mur
dering the “Queen’s English/’ when
they get a chance. They seem to
have a spite at Webster, Murray and
the rest of those old fellows, and
whenever they have an opp ortunitv
they “go for cm” with the spirit of
the ‘ ‘Devil’’ himself.

Editor Times :— Please grant u a
small space in your columns, that we
may announce the name of J. F. Edge,
as a candidate for Tax Collector in the
election which is soon to come off in
this county. For the information ot
those who may not he }>ersonallv ac
quainted with Mr. Edge, we just say,
that he is an honest, upright, industri
ous man, besides, being a wounded
soldier, deprived of his left arm &c.
He happened to the sad misfortune of
losing his arm while “battling for his
rights, as a southern soldier. Mr.
Edge is a poor man, and of couise
must depend on his labor for a sup
port, and having a large family com
ing on, he cannot by all the physical
power he can muster, maintain them
aright, notwithstanding his industry,
and all the economy possible. There
fore, we hope, that all who feel duty
hound, w ill aid in gi' ing Mr. Edge
their support, irrespective of any pars
tyism whatever ; as he don’t claim to
be anything more, nor less, than of a
mild Democratic- principle. Come !
rally countrymen, let old Carroll have
it said, one at least, of her veteran,
cripples are remembered by her sup
port. Fairplat.
