At an early hour a large and l espectabte audience assembled in good order and befitting taste, to wit ness life cobiing event. The lad it too were out in all their grace and beauty to lend their attractive sweetness to the occasion. I love to see llie charming cirls. Witb rosy cheeks and glossy curls, And stately brows and sparkling eves, Like hues and gems that deck the skies. Language is too tame and trite, To tell the things I saw that night, Nor will 1 venture now to sav, W hat I may write some other day. After everything was put in regular and complete order, in a short time , thereafter, said exhibition was opened | under the most flattering and inviting auspices. And here allow me to say in behalf of Miss Acklin and all con cerned, that it has never been my good fortune, on any similar occasion, to witness a more spicy, interesting and elegant entertanment—one that reflected so much lustre and credit upon the beautiful and gifted Instruo tress, as H ell as all those who engaged in the exercises of the occasion. Each and every one acted their part so welb that it would bo cruel and invid ions to discriminate, especially be j tween the young ladies, who acted their pari with so much ease and be. witching grace, that I thought the bust, the best*every time. In fact, the various scenes were acted with a cor lectness and elegance, as well a, promptness, that would ha\o done | honor to riper and more experienced performers. And here I cannot, I will j not refrain, from paying a compliment to the dear little folks. I wish to speak | in the first place, in reference to little | Annie Chambers, of the beautiful mans I ner, in which, she delivered and em ! phasized, that sad, but splendid pro duct ion, on the fate of the gambler I never heaid in all my life, (from one so young and tender,) anything of the | kind, that so completely captivated my taste, for the heart touching and sublime. And now a meed of prai o and tribute j ust, is and ie to B hb.c v.'itim bers, Mid li'tie Annie White, for the graphic and superb manner, in which 1 . 1 j juvenile love-talk, v;ni due up, It warn so natural and lifelike, at the | do o of that part of the ] erfownance, If un.vl myself Bqve<'zi><q* with all the ardor in me, a great big, good looking fellow, (about the size of Jim Stone,) who ha; pence to be so unlucky, as to be within the :ad hr. of buy grasp. The compositions by the young la dies, for purity of diction, do uien.ee of style and beauty of sentiment would do ci edit and honor to older and more expeiienced heads ; and the ease, grace and facility, with which, they delivered them, drove wjirm impres sions home, to the hearts of many of the audience. They reminded me of pearls c f.k ',l? a bed of roses I feel the in of the muses, and you mast indulge me in a little poetry. ’Tis Educations’ softesh mil jest rays, Recall the thought of lw-gone days. Where class-mates hound with magic chain, Have met to kindly greet, again. Streams of kindness olt fondly start. Thro’ every pulse that warms tlie heart, And friendships’ soul, her love expands, To trace them o’er life’s weary sands. Tho’ many clouds have passed between, Yet, memory's tree , is fresh and green, Its towering branches waving high, Forbid, that love and friendship die. And now as to the orations deliver ed by the young men, they were full of pathos, and touching eloquence, and far surpassed tho oratorical pow ers, of many of ourptiblic speakers, of the present day. One more little ode to science, and I am about done. The noblest thought that warms the mind, By sage expressed, or taste relined, That, must be from knowledge riven, Purest, brightest gift, to mortals given. He who has climbed the rugged height, And drank the crystal waters bright! Well knows the joys and hopes and rest. On the dome of fames’ eternal crest. The hero ! who wins the bloody Held, And views tbe scars upon his shield, With tears and pity count the cost, Os many friends and comrades lost. It takes study ! and unceasing toil, To make a Newton, Locke, or Boyle, He who to fame with ease would rise, Must learn his own folly to despise. Mr. Editor, I’ll declare you must excuse me for intruding on your pa tience and good nature. When I first commenced this article, I thought I would only speak a few words of commendation, in behalt ol Mins nies’ exhibition, and here I nave three or four long pages, for the Prin ter and his handsome little Devil , to quarrel over. However, I will do bet ter next lime. Good-bye. R, J. G. M. C. & E. M. Thomasson have just received a large addition to their stock of Millinery and Fancy Goods.
