It embraces confec turneries of all kinds, every style of fancy candy, oranges, nuts, raisins Ac. He has also on hand, toy sos all kinds, for the young folks, so that every taste can be suited. T du will also find at Julian A Man deville’s, one of the best stock of drugs ever brought to Carrollton ; exquisite perfumery; huge stock of lamps ; fine smoking tobacco- and ci gars. Call and see them before it is too late. W. C. News Dry Goods Store. At the invitation of Dr. New, we made an examination a few days ago, of his Dry Goods establishment, and must say, that he has one of the lar gest, if not the largest, stock of goods ever brought to this market. We especially noted his large stock of Boots and Shoes, of first class stock, which he is offering at very reason able figures. In the line of Ladies Dress Goods he also has a large and varied stock, selected with care and taste, as the Doctor is a tasty man. The ladies are invited to make an ex animation of this department, and when they do, we are cetain they will agree with us. Ilis ready made cloth ing department is also very full, so that all can be suited. If you want a cheap suit, he has got it, if you want a fme one, he has got it, and what is better, his clothing is all of the latest styles. We have not the time nor the space to enumerate the many nice things which we noticed, but suffice it to say. that every department is full, and that his goods are sold upon the “ live and let live,” principle. Everybody is invited to call and examine the Doctor’s stock, and see that we have not overstated the case, and if they should want anything in his line, they will be waited upon, with a great deal of pleasure, by his gentlemanly corps of clerks, Mr. I. B. Perdue, F. C. Meadors and S. P. Lovvorn, all of whom are now in this establishment. Thompson, Cole & Cos., Newnan. While in Newnan on last Monday, we stepped into the mammoth furniture establishment of the above gentlemen, and were shown over the same, by one of the urbane and gentlemanly proprie tors, (.’apt. Y. 1L Thompson. Any one not knowing, the immense business done by these gentlemen, would be perfectly surprised, at the large stock of furniture they have on hand. Ev erything imaginable in their line, of all styles and qualities, can be found here. Buying and making furniture in such large quantities, these gentle men are enabled to offer inducements to the trade, and hence we are not surprised at the large number of ors ders they receive from all parts of Western Georgia, and Eastern Ala bama. The few moments we were in their rooms, we noticed several or ders being filled for points down on the Atlanta and West Point, and Western railroads. To our friends in Carr. >ll wanting anything in their line, we can confidently recommend. Thopipson, Cole A Cos., Newnan, Ga., as the place to buy. This gentleman moved into the country last week. He came to Car> rollton nearly two years ago, durino- o ueriod of great gloom and depressfon on the part of our citizens generally: bought a residence and several vacant lots, paying good prices for them; and, notwithstanding the sneers and evil prophecies of many would-be know ing ones, he went to work to build up the place, erecting a large and handsome two story business house on the square. His example became contagious; and to him, perhaps, more than to any other man, is Car j rollton indebted for the rally that took place and for the enterprise and ac tivity now visible on every hand lie not only stemmed the current but turned it, striking the first blow arid seeping it up until he kindled a hear- j ty faith in the- future of our town anij- j stirred up the spirit of improvement on the part of all. His generous nature and open-hearts ed-ness made him the victim of an un principled adventurer, from whom, about a year ago, he suffered quite a oss. Failing health induces him to go to the country to try farming We regret to part with a man of so much faith and energv. Mr. Perry, with whom Mr. Edge worth traded, has moved into Mr. Edgeworth’s former residence and will we trust, and doubt not, prove a worthy successor to him. We give the parting hand to Mr. E., and that of welcome to Mr. P.— Success to them both, with long life and happiness. * * * *• MR. I’. G. GARRISON. Is one of our oldest and most wor thy citizens. He is faith personified so fiir as the future of Carrollton is concerned; and to his persistent hope and practice in that particular, Cars rollton owes much of the prospects now dawning upon her. With the ken of a prophet he has always declar ed that the railroad must come here, and not only one but several ; and now his predictions are about to be realized. But he did not content himself with simply prophesying, he illustrated his faith by his works, lent a helping hand, and put his shoulder to the wheel when the enterprise ap peared to be hopelessly mired. An active temperance man and a zealous member of the church, lie is always found oil the l ight side of every ques tion affecting the vital interests of the community, and when an enterprise is started every body knows where “Uncle Pat” will be found. He is al ways a “wheel horse” and often a “whole team” in every thing that is good, with his face “set as a flint” against evil. Mr. Garrison is now engaged in putting up a handsome two-story brick building on the square. It will have two large and conveniently ar ranged stores on the first floor and ten nice offices above. The roof will be covered with slate, and each store room will have a cellar below. Many have already applied to rent the store rooms, which will be ready for use, we trust, early next year. This enterprise of our fellow citi zen has done a great deal to give the people, not only of this community but of commercial circles generally confidence in the future prosperity of Carrollton; and added at least 25 per cent to the value of all good property around the square. It is hoped that someone else will soon follow his good example. HYMENIAL. Married at tbe residence of tbe bride’s father, on tbe 12tb inst., by J. M. Muse, Esq., Mr. W. A. Baxter and Miss Fannie B.
