A CARD.
Fellow Citizens:—A report
having been circulated by the
friends of Mr. Brown, and Judge
Richards to the effect that I was
to be interested in the Ordinary’s
office if Mr. Beall is elected, 1 de
sire to say to the people that the
report is utterly false, and without
any foundation. I think it is sim
ply mean to appeal to the pre
judices of men who may not like
mo, if I am not as good a man as 1 (
ought to be, Beall should not have «
to suffer for it.
I want to say once for all that (
the report is false, and that no
hint of the kind (either express or j
implied) was ever sugested or even j
thought of by either of us. I think ,
I can convince any sensible voter •
of it. Tiie Ordinary is entitled to
a clerk, that is all. In the first
place I think I can do better at
my profession, than to liiro out. as (
clerk. In the next place, I write ;
such a poor hand that if I was Or- <
di'lary myself I would employ 1
somebody to do my recording. 1
Don't that settle it? What other
position is there in the Ordinary’s
office,-? About all the trait 1
w '.ould have to fit me for it, would
be the fact that I keep sober. N<»w
whenever you hear candidates or
their workers saying that “George
Merrell will he the ordinary if
Beall is elected,” you can see at
once they are hard run for merit
themselves, and are telling that
which carries proof of falsehood
on its very face. Why not all run
on their own merits? AH the can
didates are good men. I have not
a word to say against Mr. Brown
or Mr. Richards. I want to say
why I atu for Beall: First because
he is well qualified for the office, a
splendid penman and a good calcu
lator. Second because he openlj
says th st he will not have a lawyei
in the office with him, and that he
will leave it to the people to em
ploy whom they please. Third be
cause he is a cripple, entirely una
ble to do any kind of work, and
h is a sickly wife and a big family
of littlle children to take care of,
! and because he has proved himself
D'faithfiu in small things.” Fourth
* because Mr. Richards is well pro
vided for, has a fine plantation,
property in town, is a good lawer
with tine practice, and has enjoyed
the office four years.
Mr. Brown is foitunad 1 . He
has been engaged as county school
commissioner at a salary of £3OO
per year for eight or ten years,
I with light duties to perform. Ho
will have a good place in the High
School here to fall back on if de
, ; seated, as his brother Pref. 11. C.
Brown is princirap and has left a
j place open (for somebody) in his
notice. Besides Mr. Browc has a
good farm near town and is well
fixed generally,
These and not because I am in
| forested in the office -.ny more than
I any other citizen, are my reasons
i for supporting Beall. I make it a
rule of my life to vote for a man
who is a cripple, or otherwise un
fortunate, if he is as well qualified
u as his opponent is, ;md 1 know
this to be true in the present case,
u D&'l, be wissled by tricks but
, vote for the candidates men! :, and
j not by the demerits of somebody

“ Calvert, Texas,
May 3,1882.
M I wish to express my appreciation of the
valuable qualities of
Ayer's Cheny r 3ctoral
as a cough remedy.
“ While with Churchill's army, just before
the battle of Vicksburg, I contracted a se
vere cold, whioh terminated in a dangerous
tough. I found no relief till on our march
fre came to a country store, where, on asking
tor some remedy, I was urged to try Ayer’s
Cherry Pectoral.
“£ did so, and was rapidly cured. Since
then I have kept the Pectoral constantly bj
me, ft - family use, and I have found it to be
an im 'uable remedy for throat and lung
disea, . J. W. WHITLEY.”
Thons, is of testimonials certify to the

affections, by the use of Ayer’s Cherry
