Braswell has been trying bis hand fishing in Mr. 11. B. Reagan’s carp pond. A big carp got away with his line, snap ping it off near the pole. The fish came near enough to the surface after a while for Mr. R’s son to get hold of the coik and line. His carpship no sooner felt the pressue of the line than he flounced away, snapping the line again. For 18 months past Carrollton has enjoyed an almost uninterrupted reign of peace and good order.— ihe exceptions have been of such character as to attract little atten tion. We regret to say that during the last several weeks there have been some little disturbances in and near the city. Mandeville from his accustomed haunts, and knowing him to be one who conies and goes with never a hint to the local edi tor of his movements, we began to suspect that he had slipped off on a summer tour to Canada byway of the Grcn Mountain Slfcte. An inquiry disclosed the fact that his j tour extends only to the sash and door factory of Mandeville A West where, after a rest of some weeks, operations have been resumed. Dr. Bartow Cole was discovered the other day in the river just be low the Kingsberry bridge, perched upon something which, from the little of it that appeared about the water, was supposed to be, and in fact was a buggy. The Dr’s, per son was in part submerged. His horse with harness on was qnietW nibbling buds out on the bank, It transpired that the Dr. had driven in to give his buggy wheels a wet ting, and getting in to deep water the horse bad braken loose and left him thus, lonely and sad. C. was takon very ill so we did not get to attend singing. She is quite sick yeX We learn- the infant child of Aliss. Louarina Jones died Thursday and was buried at old Concord.— Mr. Allen Rowe is still confined to his bed. Mrs. Lucinda Reid is also on the sick list. Third District We are needing rain in this sec tion. Cotton looks well. The threshing season is about over. Air. J. T. Jones' wife was hurt by his mules taking fright and knocking a fence against her, mash ing her foot, and some other inju ries, none serious. The Hutcherson Manufacturing company have put up a corn mill at their factory and are puling in other'nriprovements. The Paper mill near the factpry is doing a good business, making print, man ilia and wrapping pa per of good quality. We see some prospect of some improvement on squire R. L. Rich ards place. C. The old gentleman is very old and feeble. Rev. J. W. Hood preached an able sennon on Sunday at this place. Mr. D. W. Stallings drilled a hole in a rock for the purpose of shooting a big gun over the elec tion, but the load blew the rock to peices and did not make but little report. He wae some what disap pointed. Hurrah for Mr. Stallings’ There will be an all-day singing There are a few cases of the measles near this place vet. Airs. Mary and Miss Carrie Alexander, have l»een op the sick list for some time, but have some what improved. Mr. W. S. Alexander says, the Northern people have been very kind to him this - season, to send him corn ready shelled, but ho will try to save them of that trouble another year. Miss Eula Adamson has just left for Coweta, for tlie purpose of teaching a school. She went before the board at Ncwuar last Saturday, and was examined three hours, and was not examined in a single one of her original studies. She is young in the cause. We wish her well. F.
