Afilly Stegall, colored, wife of
Jordan Stegall, died on Sunday
evening. There was a little breeze
of excitement among the colored
people when it was learned that a
daughter of the deceased, Jane
Long had asserted that her mother
was poisoned, and that she was
taking steps to have a post-mortem
examination made. But it was
not dene, and the body was com

was a plain, straight out case of

Just a week ago to-day I wrote
you a communication in which 1
announced the death of two. It is
the same thing to-day. Yesterday
about twelve o’clock Mrs. Mary
Angle died, aged 80 years. She
died at the icsidence of her son
AA. C. Angle, about two miles
north of this place in Douglas coun

who proceeded her two years, three

leaves five minor children together

AVe greatly sympathize with the

r We are glad to learn that Mrs.

very sick since her return form
Salt Spiings, is slowly improving.
Ihe accomodation train will
likely be put back on our road the
first of September. There is some

which event the regular Carrollton
tram will “about face” and run
from the other end of the lines
spending the night in Griffin.

Mr. W. B. Gaston, of Carrollton j
has been appointed United States |

the stead of Mr. J. T. Bennett, who
has filled the position heretofore.
Mr. Gaston came over Tuesday

At last we are enabled to report ;
something tangible concerning this ,
road. A committee, composed of |
Messrs. R. N. Askew, J. B. Ware,
,P. 11. Whitaker and J. ll‘ Daniel,
all representative men of Heard
county, passed through our city
Tuesday en route to Atlanta to
obtain the $20,000 required.— 1
They returned Wednesday, and re- I
ported that they had no trouble !
in obtaining the money from the '
bank of the State of Georgia.—
Mr. Coker, the president, was only
too glad to let the money out on
the papers proposed to be given by
these gentlemen.
Heard is now being actively can
vassed for the $20,000 subscription
and at their meeting, to be held in
Fiankiin on the2sth inst. no doubt i
is entertained that the affairs will I
be in such condition as to warrant j
the gentlemen in calling for the '
money from Mr. Coker.
We have seen Mr. Berry, and he ;
seems more than glad to hear of
the success of the gentlemen. He
says that twelve months will be
ample time in which to have the
road completed and in running or
der.
So we may look foi the pnblica j
tion of the schedule of chat road by .
this time next year, and we will I
picnic with our friends on the
banks of the Chattahoochee “when
the fields of green are waving.”
Gentleman we tip our hat to
vour enterprise.
