latat |eait. I^WWMMRMHIP t meeting of (be Sub»crlbfrs to the fund to build the Court-House, has been propo ed by two of our corr-rpondent* this week, and we have been appealed to to give our opinion as to the propriety of the move ment, We ' xccedirigly regret to have to say anything more on the subject, as too much h <s already be en said for the goud of all but as our opinion haa been axkeJ we will give it lor what it is worth. The question has al ready been set led by the county at t e bal lot b >x as to what point the court-house ahould be located, and, we supp 'se, »o far as the coun ty is concerned the people are satisfied wall their choice. If Cass Station had got it. com missioners were app 'lilted in the bill to locate it bee. use, we suppose, there was no uniform town there. Why it was that that matter Wa.- not left f«.r the Inferior Court to determine, we are unable to say. Hut in case it cine to Ca;* tersvillo, no commissioners were provided to locate it, as there was a uniform town at this point, and it strike.-, us that the bill anticipated that the localiity should be left o circumstan ces to be determined by the citizens of the place with the co-operation of the t .’ourt, even it the county were taxe 1 to build it. Hut, in this instance, the court-house is to be bunt by private subscription of the citizens, and our humble opinion is, that it would have given more universal satisfaction if the Inferior court, town commissioners and subscrib rs to the fund, bad held a meeting and agreed upon a site for the court-house, even though it might ha' e been the present one; but, as it is, many a-r dissatisfied and wiM ever be, In view of all these tilings, we think it meet and light that thc*wishes of, at least, the men who are to pav f r the court-house should be •consulted in connection with the best interests ot the town, regardless of who lnav or may not ‘be benciitted by the location of the site. W e recommend, therefore, with all due de ference to whatever action the i'ourt may have taken in the premises, that the subscribers al. in. et .it the Court-house in Cartersville, on ,Baturdiy Evening next at Two O’Clock. and inferch.i ge views on the subject and offer such propositi ms as may be thought advisable, and that as many members of the Interior Court uiui Town Council as can attend be invited to do o. il possible let whatever is done be bar nioniouH. Miy 17ih, 1867. E. D. Puckett, J. D. Layton, C, T. Sheiman, Commissioners. Inform\tion Wanted. Mr. Elijah Sprigg. ot Baitow county, Ga., who was sent hero some time since by the Inferior Court of that county to procure supplies lor the starving people in that section, has not been heard from for several weeks, and his friends are be coming anxious about him. About the 25th of March he was at Henderson, attending to the shipment of supplies donated by the people of that section. Any information of him sent to tins office will reach his friends. Louisville Ay. Courier. [Comm 'inicated.j Messrs. Editors : Gov. Jenkins having fin ally decided the Court-House question, the lo cating, contracting for and the manner ofbuild ing said court-heuse becomes a question cf much interest to the people of our town, and especially that portion of it which w ill contri bute the means for building it. You will re member that this court-house is to be a dona tion from the people of -his place to the county. To© inferior Court have now in their posses sion the obligations of a large number of our citizens for considerable amounts. From a pretty free intercourse with these subscribers I have learned that, in their opinio , the do nors of this court-house fund ought to he con suite !, to some extent, in reference to its loca tion and manner ol building. Rumor says our Inferior Courl have already selected and pur chased the lowest, wettest and most inacces sible point on the public square for the cite of the building - Tnis, surely, cannot lie true There is much doubt whether it should be on t e public square at all. Surely, there can be no deubt that it should not be cn the point in dicated Another rumor says the building ;s to be let by private contract and not to the low est i.idder. It seems to me and to others with whom I have talked that this too is wrong.— Give all a chance and lets have the best house we can for the amount of money. There are srvcial questions of interest connected with this business, and as the opinions and wishes ol the donors ol this property ought to be con sulted, what say you, Messrs. Editors, to a meeting of them on next Saturday evening at the Court-House at 4 o’clock ? A SUBSCRIBER. [ Communicated.] Messrs. Editors: 1 learn from common ru mor that the honorable inferior Court met here n lew days since, for the the purpose of locat ing the Court-House, and that they did selccj a piece of ground, &c., &c. But, Messrs. Ed itors, I would respectfully ask has the citizens ot Cartersvtlle no interest in this matter?— Who contributed the money for building a Court-house? What was the object of these subscriptions ? Was it merely for the good of the county or the benefit of the members of the Court, or for the benefit of the town? I, iVle;srs. Editors, have yet to learn that any one wno subscribed was consulted at all. I have yet to learn why til s was cot done ; and now, Messrs, Editor, what is the duty of the Infe rior Court in the case ? Is it not to take charge of the funds of the county, or any donation I hat ln y he made for general or specific pur; o ses, and to expend them in the most judicious manner. Have the Inferior Court, by locating the court-house at he pr posed point, served the interest of the town to the best of their a biiitv ! If so, God help the ability! I appre hend not, hut the interests of a few select in dividuals. I, Messrs. Editors, made a small subscription not intending it for the benefit op my i a ... but for the benefit of the town, and l respectfully propose to the other contributors to call e meeting, at an early day, and consult each others views on the.subje t, aim take such action in the premises as our better judgments may dictate, A CITIZEN. Mrs. Jane Goodwin. This estimable ady, tho wife of our neigh bor Goodwin, <nd s.ster of Mr. Elijah Spriggs, is rendering the poor ot tins county invaluable service in the State of Imlianna. A (pi entity of these provisions have already been received, vve learn, and distributed among the needy ol ‘his community ; doubtless the widows’ wail and orphans’ tear have been to i !e to cease by the opportune reception ot th se charities" We trust the regards and prayers of the good and humane will attend M -.
